it's only a couple hours drive...

Last time i went to Reno i flew from San Francisco but that's cause i didn't feel like dealing with driving in the snow.

Re: OT: Thinking about Flying to Sacramento / Driving to Lake Tahoe

Just didn't know if it was a good/easy drive or not.
Thought someone in/from the area could give me
some info.

HWY. 50 TO Lake Tahoe is a beautiful drive, it takes around 2 hrs. from the airport. It depends on the Hwy. construction on 50. Once you reach Placervile it is awesome. You can also go Hwy 80-however I never take that route. This is a great time to go.

I'm leaning toward taking that route. Hopefully the drive
will be smooth and scenic and the tables/sportsbook will
be generous.

did the drive a few years ago from Sac-Tahoe

what Black didn't mention is that once to get to Placerville from then on to Tahoe it is ONE LANE! and while driving there to your right is A LONG WAY down the mountain. to your left is the mountain and the ONE LANE from cars leaving Tahoe. the drive is great with some breathtaking views HOWEVER if someone has ANY car problems at all what is a 2-hour drive and about 1 hour to Tahoe can take FOREVER. when we left Tahoe on a sunday we left around 7A so we could get to Placerville BEFORE any assholes hit the road and caused trouble - and we missed any problems at all. if you drive from Sac also realize once you pass Placerville you better not need any gas at all because there just isn't any gas stations past Placerville and before Tahoe

i suggest flying to Sac and not Reno and the drive is great but just know a few of these things ahead of time

Get on I80, and get it over with. You can sight see when you get to Truckee. Donner & Lake a must IF you have time. This area is THE most beautiful I've ever seen. If you go via 50 from the Carson side that last curve coming into Tahoe will take your breath away.

Try not to get stuck behind drivers with California plates, Nevada folks are much better drivers.
