Only cities that reported crime rates were included in the list. For example, New Orleans was not included this year because its police department did not report figures.

Good thing the federal prosecutors in St. Louis are spending time and resources fighting online gambling while they are ranked the most dangerous city in America.

I don't know when it goes from safe to unsafe but if Lawton, OK is on a list of safest cities in America, or even just safer than many of the cities listed below it then I'll kiss your ass.

Looking at a lot of these cities, I'm calling BS.

Re: Ranking of Most, Least Dangerous Cities

the CA cities near the top of the list DEFINITELY belong there - most are in The OC and are as bland as milk and "riff raff" can't afford to live there

inglewood wshould be rated lower - that is one town you DO NOT wanna be in come nightfall and now that the lakers/kings are gone - that city really has gone to hell

Back in the late 1980's, Benton Harbor held the title of per-capita murder capitol of the country for several years.

When I was in high school and my school didn't have a home game that night, I would tell my parents I was going to a friend's house but I would actually go to the Benton Harbor basketball games, especially their holiday tournament (which would regularly attract Detroit Public League powerhouses) or if they were playing Muskegon or Battle Creek Central. Some of the best HS ball I've ever seen in my life.

I got some funny looks but was never once harassed or bothered. I probably got very lucky in hindsight.

It's not Vegas as a whole but North Vegas and downtown. The strip is highly enforced now. Anything south of Mandalay is pretty safe, Enterprise, Southern Highlands etc....and of course Summerlin ok.

I did also. They played a great schedule, the highlight being Battle Creek Central.

That area isn't anything nearly as bad as downtown Gary. It's the same with all places on lists like this. There are $3m homes in Oakland and Atlanta, do you think those owners dodge gunfire around their homes?

They were smart to build on the south side of 80/94, instead of the Gary side.

Chicago should be split into neighborhoods. There are a lot of safe places in Chicago but there are also the most dangerous places in the country.

Violent crime is almost 7 times more common in Englewood than in the rest of American cities. In the most recently released FBI crime log, there were 3,026 violent crimes in Englewood.
In Washington Park, however, 1 out of 170 people have to live through a violent crime.

A shocking amount of Washington Park natives suffer property crimes, however. You risk a 1 out of 33 chance that you’ll have your home burglarized, or property stolen in Washington Park.
You risk a 1 out of 35 chance of property crime in Riverdale. Burglary occurs at an alarming rate in Riverdale, with 88 recent reports. There are 18 thefts and 6 robberies for every 1,000 Riverdale residents.

There are a total of 77 neighborhoods or community zones in Chicago.

Pullman is one of the 77.

Two years ago, there were 6,500 people living in Pullman and more than 6,700 crimes were reported there.

Yikes!
