On Monday, Iowa announced the school is aware of a sports wagering investigation and is fully cooperating as 26 current student-athletes are involved across several sports -- baseball, football, men's basketball, men's track and field, and men's wrestling -- along with one full-time employee of the UI Department of Athletics.

Iowa notified the NCAA of potential violations and also added it has "hired outside counsel to assist in the investigative process."

The school's announcement came the same day Iowa State revealed it is conducting a similar investigation. Gambling is legal in the state of Iowa, but NCAA rules ban athletes from participating.

Iowa's probe comes after multiple UI baseball players were suspended for a three-game series against Ohio State that took place in Iowa over the weekend, reportedly because the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission launched an investigation.

How many of those kids/students had pro possibilities? Prob none, so i guess it really doesn't matter.

feels like a witch hunt. you could probably bust 75% of all pro and college athletes for gambling
When you legalize pot people are much more open to smoking pot, same with gambling, this article mentions track and wrestling athletes(along with the others), they weren't betting on their sports so once again who cares?

Unless and until we get evidence that athletes were betting on their own games it's utterly unimportant, for a corrupt organization like the NCAA to complain about players breaking rules that no longer have meaning is pretty rich.

This is a little scary....some think college baseball, who cares, however this could have a snowball effect into major college sports and players. Only a handful make NIL money. A inadvertent fumble for 5k could change a lot. Temptation can be a nasty beast and in high volume sports not even a silly Integrity company run by the former head (Cantor) at the 'M' is going to notice

Of course on our side of the fence legalized wagering is a Messiah, on the other side Devil's Island.

Yeah because the 1st half was flat out ridiculous from Iowa. Fucking scumbags. Maybe there was a reason sports gambling was only legal in Vegas for however long.

This blows really. Longest TD of the year they gave up was to Nebraska in last game.

I'm simply shocked that when gambling is legalized almost everywhere, young college students decide to play. Who's have thunk it?
