The opening odds start here
Detroit/Oakland over 4.5 -115:
The Tigers (6-8), coming off of a sweep of Houston mid week, dropped a 8-4 decision last night to Oakland (7-7) at Ring Central Coliseum in game 1 of this 3 game series. Stephen Piscotty and Jed Lowrie each hit solo HR's, and Matt Chapman drove in 2 with a double as Oakland used a 4 run 6th to put it away. Sean Manaea evened his record at 1-1, allowing 2 runs and 5 hits over 6 strong striking out 7. Tarik Skubal dropped his second decision without a win, but didn't pitch too badly allowing one run on 2 hits over 4, but walked 4 and struck out 5. Detroit used 6 pitchers but Joe Jimenez surrendered 3 runs on 3 hits in Oakland's 4 run 6th. Niko Goodrum went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Will Castro went 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI in the losing effort. This afternoon, Casey Mize (1-0 0.82) looks to help the Tigers even the series against Cole Irvin (0-2 7.45) who looks to get back on track after losing to these same Tigers at Comerica last week 6-2 giving up 4 earned on 5 hits in 5 1/3.

While the Tigers have started out streaky but fairly well just a few weeks in, their bats have been far from an asset, hitting just .218 overall, 6th worst in the majors and tied for 3rd worst in the AL with Baltimore. They average about 4.1 runs per contest but lead the AL with 20 HR, including 6 by Ramos (.256) despite only 8 RBI. Jeimer Candelario (.294 1 7 is 10 for his last 23 (.370) over his last 7 games. Akil Baddoo (.294 4 11) is tops on the team in RBI. Normally reliable Jonathan Schoop is off to a very slow start hitting just .178 with 2 RBI over his first 13 games but hopes to turn it around as the season progresses. While Skubal and Jose Urena are a combined 0-5 and an ERA well north of 6, Matthew Boys (2-1 1.86) looks like the early season ace thus far.

Lowrie (.360 2 12) is off to a dangerous start leading the Athletics in RBI and is 10th in the AL in batting. Chapman (.189 3 9) has struggled early going through an 0 for 15 stretch but has a 4 game hitting streak (.316). There is good balance in production on this A's squad but are only off to a .216 start from the plate overall. 5 players each have 2 HR but considering this team started out losing their first 6 games, they've come back a long way. Yusmiero Petit (3-0 2.09) has been lights out in middle to late relief getting himself out of jams in late close games, and Frankie Montas (2-1 4.91) has done the same though needs to monitor his control and mechanics in longer outings. In the closer's role, Lou Trivino, has a couple of saves in as many opportunities,

With the Tigers depending on the long ball, and Oakland's bats coming to life over the last week or so, we could once again see some offense, and hopefully on the early and often side. Especially in the North Bay area, the ball at Oakland Alemida turned O.co, turned Ring Central Coliseums travels worlds farther in ideal conditions in the daytime. With temps hovering around 70 today under fair conditions, we get a nice price today hoping to start strong out of the gate. Best of luck however you play!
