The charge at 3:37...A question for Winkyduck, Woodrow Wilson and other basketball officials

It looked the charge at 3:37 that referee Bill Vinovich was going to swallow his whistle and give Big West title to CSUN.

Nunez made the correct call here.

Why did Vinovich swallow his whistle?

Is he allowed to make the call there?

It was in middle of the floor, maybe a foot to the left.

I've seen Vinovich mess up four block/charge calls this year.

In 2001, when Utah St and UCI played at Bren Center (a game that JK attended) Vinovich made a cowardly double foul on a late block/charge instead of calling it against home team, Irvine.

I remember the call well.

Jump ball after the double foul and the arrow pointed to the home team.

Largest crowd ever at the Bren Center influenced the ref to make the gutless call.

Birdie's steel-trap memory serves him well in handicapping sports.

Vinovich made the right (no) call.

A FLOP! 100% FLOP by the Poly guy. On that play the one who made the call is the one who is supposed to make the call. When there are 2 officials on 1 side and 1 on the other, the 2 on the same side are Lead and Trail. Lead is ALWAYS on the baseline and Trail is the one on the same side but closer to midcourt. Vinovich - by himself on the other side, is the "C" (Center) official. That play took part in an area where both the Trail and C could call it. But the play originated in the Trail's primary and as such it is his call. Vinovich is not (supposed to be) looking where the play started. The correct official made the call. The call was wrong though. That was a 100% FLOP and the kid sold it. That is a NO-CALL there. Play on. Count the basket, the Pornadors are up 1 and now SLO has to get a basket to win. The call is not the worst I have ever seen but it was bad.

Jesus Christ Winky...where do you see a flop. Kid maintained his defensive position, did not anticipate the contact and fall before being hit....got drilled in the middle of the chest.

Charge call. Big moment and the official made the call.

I have an offensive foul there with dribble contacting defender with his shoulder.
Winky is right about officials PCA's but I have an offensive foul. It is not Vinovichs' call.

Bang bang play. If you're a coach you can chew on me for a lot of different things, but this call isn’t one of them.

Picking apart this call is really splitting hairs but imo it’s a charge,

I should add it is a tough call but also a ballsy call at that point in the game.

NO argument there. But how many other pro officials can we say that about. Especially MLB Umps

Agree with Winky. No call, count the basket, and play on. Refs are often too willing and anxious to make whatever all is in vogue or NCAA is pushing. This is true in NFL also.
