THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

If the Republicans refuse to budge on the debt ceiling, and a stock market crash occurs spiraling the economy into a depression, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL COLLAPSE. Even the business community is pushing the Republicans to pass the debt ceiling. It is agreed that both parties bare the brunt of blame for getting us into this situation, we must do what's necessary to get us out.

IF THEY CAUSE THE DEPRESSION, THEY WILL NOT WIN AN ELECTION FOR DECADES. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

Re: THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

No tax increases!
No raising the debt ceiling!

Stop spending cold turkey, or turn the lights out -- America's run is over!

Tea Party Republicans were elected to do one thing and one thing only: stop spending and reduce the size of government.

Only a progressive would advocate solving a spending problem through increasing revenues, which is akin to 'curing' a drug addict by giving him another high. Increasing revenues with even greater draconian taxes would only lock in the commie Kenyan's "fundamental transformation" of America, something he desperately wants to do.

Memo to all RINOs:

No more playing patty cake with communists!

Any politician who compromises with the Commie Kenyan locking in his agenda will be primaried in 2012....and they damn well know it.

Re: THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

Let's face facts: Obama (a black man) won states that even white Democrats haven't won in decades. Those states are Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia. There's two things at play here: the Republican Party continues to be dominated by extremists, even though MOST Republicans arent extremists. Demographics and minds are changing rapidly. As the formerly SOLID SOUTH begins to crumble for the GOP, they will became a minority party. California liberals have moved into formerly Republican states such as Nevada. Obama won EVERY state that touches an ocean or great lake, except Alaska, South Carolina or Georgia. And now even Georgia can be considered a swing state. As the Republicans continue to disgust hispanics, guess what? They are growing at a higher rate than other races and are spreading into the SOLID SOUTH. The old argruments of tax breaks for the rich, and kick all illegal aliens out are not doing the GOP any good. A lousy economy is all that will save them. The question, is it enough to save them at all?

GOP announces vote on 18-month debt-ceiling plan

printer-friendly

While Barack Obama went to the press for the third time in 17 days, John Boehner and Eric Cantor called his bluff in the House. The Republican leadership announced that the House would vote on a plan to raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion and matching cuts:
House Republicans said Friday that they planned to vote next week on a proposal to raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion, with matching cuts and guidelines to control future government spending.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) said at a news conference Friday that the House next week would vote on a ?cut, cap and balance? approach. The House plans to separately vote on a measure that would amend the U.S. Constitution to require the federal government to balance its budget.

House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) said Friday that the White House has been ?unwilling to put a real plan on the table,? but said next week?s vote would not ?preclude? the chance of reaching a deal with Democrats.
The only thing wrong with this announcement was the timing. The GOP probably should have waited for Obama?s press conference to end before unveiling this effort. That would have trumped Obama?s message and might have improved the chances of carrying the news cycle.

However, Obama?s wan performance at the podium might not prove much of a challenge. Obama?s third press conference produced exactly what his first two press conferences already delivered: no plan, no specifics. In fact, Obama explicitly stated, ?I?m not going to get into specifics.? House Republicans have offered ? and passed ? a very specific plan to reduce spending and the need for future borrowing.

Obama?s own debt commission delivered a very specific plan, which Obama has entirely ignored for five months. James Pethokoukis was prompted to tweet, ?Leading from behind,? and at this late date, it?s hard to grasp what the White House wanted from a rehash of the prior two press conferences.

Boehner and Cantor could still be bluffing themselves. They took quite a while to develop this proposal, and some wondered whether Boehner could get the votes for a debt-ceiling increase in order to put pressure on the Senate and White House. One has to assume that they have whipped the caucus to make sure it can pass without Democratic support, even though Tea Party Caucus leader Michele Bachmann and others have publicly declared opposition to any debt ceiling hike. I assume we will see a round of strategic voting and a thin margin of victory in the roll-call vote.

If Republicans pass this in the House, they will have delivered a plan that puts the next debate over the debt ceiling into 2013, and made the 2012 elections hinge on this debate. The bill will force the Democrats in the Senate and Obama to either accept that outcome or kill the bill ? and that puts the onus for default squarely on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the President of Ambiguities.

Re: THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

Until 2012, the GOP should just ignore the Kenyan Commie's pathetic grandstanding, fearmongering and demagoguery, and just keep passing legislation through the House, daring the Dem Senate to reject it, and the Kenyan Commie to veto it.

This will keep Hussein's Great Depression 2.0 on the front-burner which will force another 2010-type tea party revolution that will give conservatives the presidency and 2/3 in each house.

No more negotiating with communists!

The only way out is to cut spending and raise revenue!!Corporations are sitting on ton's of cash but would rather sit on it overseas then let the taxman bend them over here.Tax the corporations at 15% and the unemployment would drop 2 % in less then 3 months.

The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument. The Republicans counter with a plan to do it in 5 stages. They settle on a "bipartisan" plan to do it in 3 stages. That's the Washington, DC way in the age of the two-legged RINO/Democrat socialist beast.

Re: THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

Serious questions.

Who ran up the deficit to extreme and didn't see it as important to talk about at the time?
Who, now that another person from another party is in office, all of a sudden become quit aware of the deficit?
What did Dick Cheney, while Vice President, say about spending and the deficit?
Who spent billions upon billion on a war that was never paid for?

I love the convenience of all this debt ceiling and spending talk now that a Democrat is in office.
If Bush was still in there you can bet your ass not a whisper of this from Republicans would be taking place.

Yeah, what we need are LESS Corporate taxes.
Tax the wealthy LESS.
EXACTLY what this country needs.
Uh,no.

They would have you believe the big bad evil Democrats and the President are the sole reason we are where we are.
But what's even more comical are the sheep who go right along with the bullshit.

BOTH SIDES have plenty to be blamed for.PLENTY.
Now all the Repub's seem to want to do is whatever it takes in order to gain some points toward the next Elections.

This is a game don't forget.

What's good for the country comes in a distant 2nd.

CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.

Americans are unimpressed with their political leaders' handling of the debt ceiling crisis, with a new CBS News poll showing a majority disapprove of all the involved parties' conduct, but Republicans in Congress fare the worst, with just 21 percent backing their resistance to raising taxes.

President Obama earned the most generous approval ratings for his handling of the weeks-old negotiations, but still more people said they disapproved (48 percent) than approved (43 percent) of what he has done and said.
    What Do You Think?

Tune into the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley at 6:30 p.m. for the full poll results.
CBS News senior White House correspondent Bill Plante reports there was no visible progress over the weekend, despite warnings from debt rating agencies that the nation's credit rating could drop, even if there is a deal, if government spending isn't cut.
Tea Party debt plan to go to vote in House
Video: Stalemate in Congress over debt deal
Coburn: Unlikely I'll back McConnell debt plan
Congressional leaders' inability to convince their own party members that concessions are necessary is likely driving the dismal approval for lawmakers involved in the testy negotiations.

Approval drops to 31 percent for the Democrats in Congress, and only 21 percent of the people surveyed said they approved of Republicans' handling of the negotiations, while 71 percent disapprove.
Even half of the Republican respondents (51 percent) voiced disapproval of how members of their own party in Congress are handling the talks. Far fewer Democrats expressed disapproval of their own party's handling (32 percent) or President Obama's (22 percent) of the urgent quest to raise the nation's debt limit ahead of a looming default on Aug. 2 if action isn't taken.
The Obama administration has pointed to the warnings from rating agencies as evidence that not raising the debt ceiling could have severe consequences for the economy, and even suggested the government might not be able to make Social Security payments if there's no agreement.

However, some remain skeptical; 36 percent said the administration is trying to scare people by painting the potential outcome if the debt ceiling is not raised as more dire than it really is. But slightly more, 40 percent, say the administration's warnings are valid. While the poll shows little confidence in the men and women doing the negotiating, there still seems to be hope that the politicians will be able to stop politicking for long enough to avert financial disaster.
Sixty-six percent of those polled said they believe an agreement will be reached before the Aug. 2 deadline, while only 31 percent say it's unlikely.

The Democrats were playing "chicken" with THEMSELVES when they couldn't even pass a budget with a full veto-proof Democrat Congress and you want to blame Republicans?

Re: THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WE KNOW IT . . .

Job losses, unemployment, inflation...this is the result of an out-of-control federal government. Most Americans are smart enough to understand that to bring back prosperity the federal government has to be reigned in. You do that by cutting up the fed's credit card. This is what this debt ceiling battle is all about.

Contrary to myths of the radical left, the Constitution was not designed as a plaything for pandering demagogues to act out their altruistic Robin Hood fantasies.

Thank God for the Tea Party!!

Did Obama refuse a bipartisan deal on the debt ceiling?

posted at 10:00 am on July 25, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

If this is true, then Barack Obama just took full and complete ownership of the debt-ceiling crisis and whatever ensues:
A Republican aide e-mails me: “The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no.”
Jen Rubin writes that “the President is playing with fire” if this report is correct, and that’s most certainly true. This might also explain why Reid turned around and decided to offer a bill that basically meets Republican demands. If Obama won’t accept a bipartisan compromise from Reid and McConnell, then Reid might as well just let Obama deal with Boehner instead.

I could have added this as an update to the previous post, but this really does put a much different light on what’s happening inside the Beltway and the White House. The two-stage plan would have offered the Democrat-controlled Senate a lot of play on budget cuts and revenue increases, perhaps overwhelming the House by bringing Senate Republicans closer to Reid. All it required was a concession from Obama on a short-term debt increase and an acceptance of real cuts, which is apparently more distasteful to Obama than the default he has been screeching about for the last two weeks.

If this is true, it looks like Reid went to the White House to split the GOP, and ended up with a split in his own party. No wonder Reid simply wants out at this point.
