Aretha Franklin died today at the age of 76.

Much R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

She sang at every Presidential inauguration for forty years. Well, the Democratic ones, anyway. They ALWAYS invited the Queen of Soul. The Republicans never invited her.

It was a welcome sight to see Bush 43 present Aretha Franklin with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

Republicans need to do a better job of outreach if they are to widen their net and remain relevant in years to come.

Soul and R&B zealots bowed at her feet however always felt she was over-rated. Nonetheless her performance in 'Blue Brothers' is legendary.
