1. The Purpose
In this book we are concerned with how to create mass organizations to seize power and give it to the people; to realize the democratic dream of equality, justice, peace.... "Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.' This means revolution." p.3
"Radicals must be resilient, adaptable to shifting political circumstances, and sensitive enough to the process of action and reaction to avoid being trapped by their own tactics and forced to travel a road not of their choosing." p.6
"A Marxist begins with his prime truth that all evils are caused by the exploitation of the proletariat by the capitalists. From this he logically proceeds to the revolution to end capitalism, then into the third stage of reorganization into a new social order of the dictatorship of the proletariat, and finally the last stage -- the political paradise of communism." p.10
"An organizer working in and for an open society is in an ideological dilemma to begin with, he does not have a fixed truth -- truth to him is relative and changing; everything to him is relative and changing.... To the extent that he is free from the shackles of dogma, he can respond to the realities of the widely different situations...." pp.10-11

<HR>
Alinsky's Rules for Radicals: "Known as the 'father of modern American radicalism,' Saul D. Alinsky (1909-1972) developed strategies and tactics that take the enormous, unfocused emotional energy of grassroots groups and transform it into effective anti-government and anti-corporate activism. ... Some of these rules are ruthless, but they work."

How to Achieve Socialism
By Jacob Hornberger

Have you ever wondered how countries such as Cuba, North Korea, and China became completely socialist? It's really not a mystery. Government officials, most of whom suffer from an insatiable thirst for power, seize upon some human tragedy or disaster and tell the people, "If you will just give us power over your lives and fortunes, we will taken care of you and protect you from harm." The citizenry, many of whom live lives of fear and insecurity, cannot pass up the bargain. What could be better than to be take care of by a paternalistic state and protected from the bad things that life presents?

Of course, it's all a scam, one in which people surrender their freedom in the hope of achieving a feeling of safety and security, only to find that they are just as insecure as ever, if not more so, given the brutal methods that government resorts to in order to maintain its control.
As government wields increasing control over the lives and fortunes of the citizenry, the tendency to blame government itself for the problems dissipates. Like children who are scared of antagonizing their parents, who wield life or death power over them, adults in a socialist society are scared to death to upset the entity in charge of taking care of them.

I had a first-hand experience with this phenomenon when I visited Cuba several years ago. A young cab driver and his wife told me why Cubans must be very careful about criticizing the government or its socialist system. It's not just the nonexistence of civil liberties but also because of Cuba's socialist economic system.

Keep in mind that in a purely socialist system, the government is the owner of everything. In Cuba, while there were a few small exceptions when I was there, for all practical purposes the state was the sole employer. Let that sink in: Virtually everyone in Cuba works for the state. Thus, if an employee gets fired, he has no other employer with whom to go to work. If the state wants to get nasty by refusing to rehire a person, it can mean death by starvation.

The cab driver told me that the state never uses that power in such a brutal way. Instead, it simply transfers independent-minded employees to divisions of the "company" in other towns and cities. Thus, the cab driver told me that the state could separate him and his wife by transferring him to a city hundreds of miles away while retaining his wife in Havana.

Now, you might say, "But America still has features of a free-market system and so it's not like in Cuba. Here, private businesses still exist, people are still free to trade, and workers are free to quit their jobs and go to others."

That's true but the problem we're facing is that unless the American people put a stop to it, the inexorable trend is toward a pure socialist system. Ever since the 1920s, each new socialist and interventionist program has brought new crises, which then have been used as the excuse for new socialist and interventionist programs.
Everywhere you look today here in the United States, there is a crisis: Social Security, the drug war, Medicare, Medicaid, the monetary system, the banking system, the financial system, FDIC, welfare, terrorism, immigration. There is obviously a common denominator in all this: the federal government, and specifically its socialist and interventionist (and imperialist) programs.

But we're not supposed to say that. Instead, we're expected to repeat the official mantras that everyone is taught in public school and in state-supported universities: The reasons for all these crises and failures is deregulation, insufficient regulation, the wrong people in office, speculators, greed, OPEC, terrorists, Muslims, illegal aliens, or whatever. We're simply not supposed to even suggest that it's the system itself that is the problem.
In Cuba, this mindset is manifested by a steadfast insistence that Cuba's economic misery is due solely to the U.S. embargo, not Cuba's socialist system. In the United States, it's manifested by a steadfast insistence that the Great Depression was caused by free enterprise and greed and saved by Roosevelt's socialist and interventionist programs. For that matter, just pointing out that Roosevelt's programs were socialistic and fascistic in nature is practically considered an act of heresy, given the idol status that the paternalistic state has achieved for many Americans.

As Ludwig von Mises pointed out, the never-ending series of interventions ultimately leads to a complete nationalization of everything. Thus, it's no surprise that U.S. statists are now calling for a complete government takeover of the banking industry, just like in the socialist paradise of Cuba. What next -- a nationalization of the oil industry, just like in Venezuela and Mexico?

That's the road America is headed down and has been heading down for several decades -- the road to socialism, the road to serfdom. The only issue is whether freedom-loving Americans will put a stop to it before it's too late.

Jacob G. Hornberger is founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation. He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and received his B.A. in economics from Virginia Military Institute and his law degree from the University of Texas. He was a trial attorney for twelve years in Texas. He also was an adjunct professor at the University of Dallas, where he taught law and economics. In 1987, Mr. Hornberger left the practice of law to become director of programs at The Foundation for Economic Education in Irvington-on-Hudson, New York, publisher of The Freeman.

He is a regular writer for The Future of Freedom Foundation's publication, Freedom Daily, and is a co-editor or contributor to the eight books that have been published by the Foundation.

Obama's a Communist: Why is it Name Calling?

<SCRIPT type=text/javascript>digg_url = 'http://loyaltoliberty.blogspot.com/2009/03/obamas-communist-why-is-it-name-calling.html';</SCRIPT><SCRIPT src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type=text/javascript></SCRIPT>

Thought for Today

"It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force." The Federalist

"With words we govern men." Benjamin Disraeli

In practice, the substance of liberty is deliberate, voluntary choice. Constrained by the threat or use of force; manipulated by lies and misinformation; herded by contrived circumstances; choice is not voluntary, and those who make it are not free. Where free choice prevails, communication is the key to persuasion. Words (including in this term the language of music and graphic images) convey facts, ideas and feelings that sway and determine the will. For those who would be free, words matter.

Understanding this, the enemies of freedom do their best to limit or eliminate words that interfere with their design for despotism. They especially seek to stigmatize and discourage the use of words freighted with the sad and tragic history of tyranny and dictatorship. That's why the use of the word 'communist' to describe Barack Obama has aroused such furious diatribe and aspersion. Call him liberal. Call him socialist. Even call him a Marxist if you will. But communist is a dirty word, a cheap shot, just resentful name calling.

Of course, it wasn't a dirty word when Marx or Engels used it to describe their ideology, or when Lenin wielded it to rally his forces on behalf of the proletariat. Marx's ponderous writings are boring and not even half-true. The bulk of people who claim and act in his name have probably never read much beyond the "Communist Manifesto." But this makes Marxism a false name, not a bad one. It took the millions murdered or dead from famine in the assault on Russia's middle class farmers (the Kulaks); it took the millions slaughter and consigned to hellish gulags during Stalin's other purges; it took the millions mobbed, defenestrated, hacked to death in Mao's cultural revolution; it took the smoking ruins of the tens of thousands slain in Kampuchea's killing fields; and so on and on, to make communism a dirty word. It took the destruction of churches, the persecution of dissidents, the use of crushing military force against unarmed civilians seeking only the dignity of their human rights; to give communists a bad name.

Given this history, it's easy to understand why folks who are looking, waddling and quacking like communists would rather we called them messiahs. Sensible people want to avoid getting caught up in the grist mill of communist tyranny. The use of the term invites them to look at its history, and this means not only the grisly results, but the path to power that let some people inflict such horrors on others. Americans have an especially good reputation for not putting their fingers into light sockets, but it doesn't take that much shrewdness to recognize the telltale signs of an approaching hurricane before it overtakes you. Lincoln showed this disposition when he looked at the actions of the pro-slavery cabal before the last Civil War.

We cannot absolutely know that all these exact adaptations are the result of preconcert. But when we see a lot of framed timbers, different portions of which we know have been gotten out at different times and places and by different workmen -- Stephen, Franklin, Roger and James, for instance -- and when we see these timbers joined together, and see they exactly make the frame of a house or a mill, all the tenons and mortices exactly fitting, and all the lengths and proportions of the different pieces exactly adapted to their respective places, and not a piece too many or too few -- not omitting even scaffolding -- or, if a single piece be lacking, we see the place in the frame exactly fitted and prepared yet to bring such a piece in -- in such a case, we find it impossible not to believe that Stephen and Franklin and Roger and James all understood one another from the beginning, and all worked upon a common plan or draft drawn up before the first blow was struck.

These days, the Obama faction's media claque derides anyone willing to imitate Lincoln's common sense as kooky, crazy, fringe, lunatic and an assortment of less cordial terms meant to scarecrow the weak minded.

  • We see the takeover of the banks and financial institutions.
  • In the steadfast refusal to take simple steps to show compliance with the Constitution's eligibility requirements we see Obama's personal contempt for the Constitution.
  • We see the Obama celebrity claque hyping a cult of personality, including a pledge of allegiance to him, rather than the U.S. Constitution.
  • We see steps by his cronies to take over and manipulate the census, control that could be abused to consolidate one party dictatorship over government in the United States.
  • We see his faction's Congressional delegation assigning unconstitutional voting representation in the U.S. Congress to federally controlled districts not qualified as states under the Constitution.
  • We see a so called stimulus bill that directs billions of dollars into the coffers of the Obama faction's political machine.
  • We see his faction's Congressional majority planning a taxpayer funded demographic invasion that will permanently alter the identity of the American people.
  • We hear his repeated calls for the establishment of a domestic security force as large and well funded as the military: an American KGB.
  • From him we hear an ominous warning about our "day of reckoning".
  • His budget seeks control of the life and death health care sector.
  • His tax policies destructively assault private action in order to fund national bureaucratic domination.
  • He proposes risky cutbacks in our military preparedness.
  • His massive spending involves borrowing requirements that will increase Communist China's hold over the United States.
  • He makes appeasing overtures to Iran as it moves toward nuclear weapons capability.
  • His faction's State Department welcomes a move that makes our hemisphere's most active radical, anti-American Marxist (Hugo Chavez) a dictator for life.
But if we dare to see the obvious pattern in all of this, we're candidates for a soon to be government controlled mental hospital. Or so the Obama faction wants people to believe. Do you think they're right?

Healthcare my ass

h: Another Dem Acknowledges Health Bill is ?Wealth Redistribution?by Kyle Olson <!-- Article Start -->
One can only imagine the ?Dean Scream? that came out of Burlington, Vermont the night the government takeover of health care passed the House of Representatives.
The always daffy Howard Dean appeared on CNBC?s ?Squawk Box? Sunday to discuss the health care reform bill. He explained that the broader principle of the legislation has less to do with fixing the health system and more to do with a Marxist principle of redistributing wealth.
?When [wealth distribution] gets out of whack as it did in the ?20s and it has now, you need to do some redistribution. This is a form of redistribution.?

<!-- generated by WordPress plugin Embedded Video -->
Ever the politician, Dean cautions that there could be ?too much? redistribution, which could result in the ?incentive? being taken out of the system. I?m sorry ? when have extreme liberals ever worried about people having incentive to do anything on their own?
In the interview, Dean wonders what the ?right balance? of income distribution might be for America. Again, as I wondered a few days ago, how are politicians qualified to determine what that ?right balance? should be? If the way they handle our money in Washington, D.C. is any indication, the politicians would do us a service by steering completely clear of financial matters.
Welcome to the transforming America.

We have politicians ?tweaking? the system in an effort to spread the wealth more equally among hard working people and people who prefer not to work at all. I doubt this is what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

The pogressive attack on the constitution rolls on

Publisher Provides Disclaimer With U.S. Constitution, Will Media Notice?

By Kyle Drennen (Bio | Archive)
Wed, 06/09/2010 - 16:54 ET

Copies of the U.S. Constitution put out by Wilder Publishing and being sold on Amazon.com come with an odd disclaimer on the first page of the pamphlet, in part declaring: "This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today." On Wednesday's America Live on FNC, host Megyn Kelly reported the controversy, will the rest of the media follow?
In an example of political correctness run amok, the disclaimer goes on to warn parents of the literary material to follow: "Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work." The provocative pamphlet also includes the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.
On FNC, correspondent Trace Gallagher quoted the publishing company's response to the controversy: "We specialize in classic books and we were receiving complaints about the values depicted in some of the books. We wrote the disclaimer so that we could stop having to point out to our readers that people held different values 100 or 200 years ago. It seems we're dammed if we do and dammed if we don't." Kelly concluded: "You know, it's one thing when you republish 'Lady Chatterley's Lover,' its another when you slap that thing on the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence." Gallagher mocked: "Warning children."

Below is a transcript of the full June 9 FNC report. One wonders when the mainstream media will report on the issue.
2:52PM EST
MEGYN KELLY: Well, a reprint of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence stirring up a heated controversy. The publisher apparently feeling that it's pamphlet, reprinting these documents, needs a warning label about values. Trace Gallagher reports live in our west coast newsroom. Trace.
TRACE GALLAGHER: At the end of America Live, we just like to get people riled up, Megyn, we think this will probably do the trick. You know, we started researching this story this morning. We went on to Amazon.com and right next to the title, where it says the U.S. Constitution, somebody typed in 'shame on you for adding this disclaimer.' Amazon.com, by the way, has taken that down.
But if you buy a copy of the U.S. Constitution on Amazon.com, what you will get is a disclaimer that says, and I'm quoting the following here, 'This book is a product of its time, and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.'
So, of course, we called the publishing company, it's Wilder Publishing. We called them, we emailed them, and we finally got a response and we have it right here. And the response is the following: 'This is a generic warning that we put on all of our books. It was not our intention to tell people how to interpret the U.S. Constitution. We specialize in classic books and we were receiving complaints about the values depicted in some of the books. We wrote the disclaimer so that we could stop having to point out to our readers that people held different values 100 or 200 years ago.' He ends by saying 'It seems we're dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.'
KELLY: Oh, Warren.
GALLAGHER: That's the response from Wilder. Warren Lapine of Wilder Publishing.
KELLY: You know, it's one thing when you republish 'Lady Chatterley's Lover,' its another when you slap that thing on the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Well-
GALLAGHER: Warning children.

The Obama Curse"

Re: Tribute To Progressives

The original Constitution condoned slavery, and many types of discrimination continued to be permissible even after the Reconstruction period.

There is nothing wrong with a disclaimer that indicates that. It encourages readers to understand that conceptions have changed and that society has become less tolerant of discrimination.

Also, there are much bigger problems to worry about than whether there is a disclaimer on this.

15 Photos From the #OneNation Rally You'll Never See In Legacy Media

The SEIU arrives, courtesy of your tax dollars, one would presume.

Child abuse. Apparently Mom never learned about the Soviet Union. Or Cuba. Or Zimbabwe. Or North Korea.

Note the guy in the American Flag t-shirt, which I assume is supposed to be sarcasm. Either that or he needs to be smacked with the clue-bat. Socialism represents the antithesis of the Constitution; or, put in terms most leftists can understand --- and I'll say it slowly for them --- "Socialism......... is......... anti-American."

Ohioans -- here's evidence that Governor Ted Strickland is doing a really, really good job (hint: help out John Kasich here).

Based on the last four years of Democrat Congressional rule, the phrase "Jobs, Peace and Freedom" should read "Unemployment, Drones, and Economic Slavery." Is that what they meant?

Yes, socialism is the alternative: if you've never read a history book and you're exceedingly dimwitted. Do they make straitjackets any more? Because a few thousand were probably warranted today.

I would start with the education for this crew and not jobs. It's hard to get a job when you're immune to facts, logic, reason and history.

A delightful combination of law-breaking advocacy: terrorism, Marxism, illegal immigration and Balkanization of the U.S.

Note the book on the right: "The Jewish Question". Author not visible in the photo, but I'm guessing Heinrich Himmler. Folks, this is the modern left in action.

In case you didn't get the message, the Left wants Communism and amnesty for illegals. That sounds like a winning combination to me, if you like poverty, misery and -- ultimately -- economic collapse.

You know what's kind of crazy? Even Castro's given up on Communism, but this bunch of leftist dimwits never got the memo!

As opposed to the 912 Rally, which left the Mall squeaky clean, this disgusting bunch of Socialists left the area a freaking mess, perhaps to create or save more cleanup jobs for the "workers".

It's times like this that I miss J. Edgar Hoover.

This is surprising?

Progressive, by definition, is post-constitution = anti-American.

Progressives shouldn't get their panties in a knot when they are called "anti-American" because their ideology is deceptively stupid and against every value and principle the country was founded on.
