Vegas is an evil place, filled with evil people......not to mention, its as hot as a motherfucker for 3 months or more.

Other than that, its a great place to visit!

Re: What Used To Happen In Vegas, Stayed In Vegas

are the rooms getting any cheaper?

My room hasn't gotten any cheaper.

From the article, I guess hotrel rooms are.

But what can a hotel do? Dropping a room $20 isn't going to get many to fly across country for twice what it cost last year.

that's true but southwest flies direct from norfolk, va...at close to the same rate...for now...

Re: What Used To Happen In Vegas, Stayed In Vegas

You are very lucky to have Southwest access, despite all the jokes made about them.

They have a very forward-looking management which hedged (locked in) oil prices at, from what I hear, everywhere from $51 to $70 a barrel.

Better use them or lose them. Those contracts will eventually run out, and then they'll be nickel and diming like all the other carriers have had to do to survive.

The old horseshoe bar at Caesar's Palace was the best place on the planet at one time.

Answer: Just a little. But this is only the beginning. We report to a complete new set of empty suits upstairs (new from out of town) who have no idea that the entire tourist climate has changed - with the recession, high gas prices, etc. Even as occupancy is dropping every month, we haven't changed our prices at all (except they really jacked up prices in all the restaurants).

Our empty suits are actually talking about raising room prices after some renovations. I predict that they are in for a big surprise.

Keep checking on sites like Anthony Curtis' Las Vegas Advisor - Home: Las Vegas, Las Vegas Hotels, Las Vegas Coupons and in a couple of years -- you will see some places offering good room bargains -- when it finally sinks in that room occupancy percentages are dropping (everywhere except the newest properties) every time new capacity comes on line (all sorts of projects in the works right now that will add lots of new rooms in the next few years).

Haven't paid to stay in a Vegas Hotel in about 3-5 years and now that Mom/Dad have a house out there don't expect to for a lot longer but if the Suits don't do somehting about hotel room costs they might not have to worry about what they charge for they will be out of a job

My wife and I flew from Pittsburgh to Vegas for $771 with Delta. I got an offer for 4 nights at the Luxor for free while there, but it is not worth paying for the flight. Sucks how much flying has gone up.

Desert meltdown?

Due to recent dramatic declines in State revenues Nevada officials were seeking to raise casino taxes through ballot a couple months ago, casinos didn?t like the idea?convincing government officials to focus on increasing Hotel room occupancy taxes (to be passed on to tourists)?no recent news on how that proposal has been flying?while the state held a special legislative pow-wow a couple weeks ago which slashed state sponsored budgets (estimated 1-billion budget short-fall for the fiscal year)?the school kids will be going without new books while state prisoners are looking forward to unplanned early releases.

Additional troubled times in the forecast?

Donald Trump recently erected a tower of +1200 condos (no casino) near the Vegas strip of which only ~180 put money down to purchase?many would be tenants are now pulling-out leaving their deposits behind purportedly due to current financially troubling-times.

Thanks for sharing the read

This just in...

Vegas Cab fares have just been increase $0.45 per mile...

$0.20 will be a permanent increase, while the remaining $0.25 may be a temporary increase depending upon the future costs of fuel.

Note: Cab-drivers typically provide the gas required to operate the vehicle out of their own pocket.

Even the prostitutes have implemented a 20% fuel charge. Where will it end?

Not trying to hijack thread-but the local Indian casino in Jackson,Ca. started paying for your gas as of today. This is great-you fill your car with gas at their station-take receipt to club booth-they put the amount on your players card. Up to 75.00 in a seven day period.runs July 7th-Aug 24th. I expect to see more of this in northern Nevada.
