2020 Bowl thoughts, plays, etc

A lot of games this week. I hate to study too much into this early with COVID.

We do have a COVID victim> Tennessee is not playing in the Liberty Bowl, hopefully Army can get their spot.

I'm sure there are ways to win as long as games are played, but man this bowl season feels horrendous. Idea of bowl season is that win or lose, you feel like you ended the season on a high note, got in some extra practices so you can be better next year and the kids got a reward for having a decent season. This year absolutely none of this applies. And for the dozens of alumni and fans of the schools that opted out, just leaves an even worse taste in our mouth when our schools send out BS messages and emails saying hey we know you love our school and program, can you donate some money to help us keep things afloat. Sorry, not when you made a mess out of our season and can't even get the kids to a bowl, I'm not giving shit this year.

Gasparilla Bowl canceled due to COVID-19 issues.

South Carolina pulled out, no replacement could be found.

Yet another 2020 casualty.

SC had no business being in a bowl anyway, really happy for the Army kids getting in though

Another touchdown for BYU.

A score of 14-0 with less than four minutes gone in the first quarter.

Live total now 90.5.

Played Hawaii under 24.5 this afternoon. Playing a rare afternoon on the mainland four/five hours ahead, not the best situation. Probably not very excited to play on Xmas Eve either.

Its just hard to get good practice time in. The best MAC and B10 baseball programs are usually the southern schools.

Changing now with all the indoors facilities. But yeah, I remember in HS being jealous of the Cali and Florida and Arizona players who could play much of the year without freezing their asses off. Playing baseball in sub 40 degree weather= no fun,.

The program is used to playing on Xmas eve as that is the normal date for the Hawaii Bowl. My thought is the kids might actually enjoy this, after all its getting them a chance to travel to go to a bowl game instead of just playing at home as they do most of the time. Then again, under current conditions where their family and fans aren't coming along it might dampen it. We'll see but I think Houston is kind of an exposed team, they really didn't play well this year compared to their internal expectations and there might be a sense to just get this season over with.

Favorites I'm questioning their motivation for these bowls. Would love to hear others thoughts on these

Texas -9.5
Wisconsin -7
Georgia -7
Texas A&M -7

Seems to me like all these teams might feel a letdown with either how the season went, or in the case of A&M a letdown on ending up here instead of the playoff.

You can include Florida on this list, before the LSU game they were in line for a possible playoff berth, but after that loss, plus the all out effort they gave last week against Alabama, I wonder how much they have left in their tank, they'll also play without their stud TE Pitts who opted out. To me the motivation is clearly all on the side of OU, a chance to take down an SEC power, I took Boomer with 3 and feel pretty good about it

Ever since Tom Herman got to Texas I've done very well taking him as a dog and fading him as a favorite, other than Colorado's QB being less than 100% I have no idea why the line opened as high as it did, I jumped on the Buffs +13, another game where I don't see how the Horns get up or care about this one, whereas you have a Colorado team that exceeded expectations and should be fired up to take on a big program like Texas

I have no opinion on Wiscy/Wake, but logic says Wake should be the more motivated team. The UGA/Cin game is one of the more intriguing Bowl games, there's no question the Bearcats should be the more motivated team, but this is a different Bulldog team with Daniels at QB. I recall betting against UGA in their Bowl last year figuring their opponent (Baylor) would be more excited than UGA, I was wrong and the Dogs crushed them, so I'm a little leery this time, certainly the Bearcats will want to have a good showing going against a traditional SEC power, but the fact that Cincy is undefeated might catch the Dogs attention enough to keep them fully focused, have to do some more thinking, but right now I lean Cincy and Under, but need some more to think, I'll try to find out how much UGA cares via Twitter accounts, interviews, etc. If they Dogs are fully focused I wouldn't want any part of fading them, very tough game for me to cap

CU is very salty about how the Pac12 pretty much left them hanging out to dry all season. I think they are extremely motivated for this one. I'm wondering how many fans will they let into the game. Normally it would be like a home game atmosphere which could be worth something to UT, but if its the subdued limited crowd we see at most events its worth very little.

Luke Fickell gonna have Cindy ready. I wouldn't trust Georgia one bit. Some of those guys are already working on the NFL.

That's what I thought last year when I faded them with Baylor, until the game kicked off and I soon realized this was a game UGA wanted to win, blow out city. To me it all comes down to how much UGA cares, and like I said, they were a different team with Daniels under center. I wouldn't be surprised if Cincy wins SU or of UGA blows them out, interested to see where the line goes on this one

I like the way WildBill thinks.

Nothing better than fading a disinterested favorite.

Check out USC's performances in the Sun Bowl.

Not good.

For anyone thinking about taking UNC, they have 2 stud RB's, and they've both opted out of the game against A&M

I'm only worried about Howell playing, if anythiing this will stop UNC from being such a conservative team in the early going. Getting over 7 against a team with questionable motivation still feels like the right side but i'll wait and see if this number goes up more.

i dont think anyone is disinterested in a short season like this, if they were they would already opted out
Well you're wrong because there are disinterested favorites every bowl season. Just because they are there doesn't mean the players want to be. After all, its the coaches collecting the bowl bonuses on their contract, not the players.

I actually agree with Matt here (which will make him change his opinion) but every team with the exception of 8 had to vote as a entire team whether they wanted to play in the bowl. Then every player had the option to hit the portal (100s did check it out! Its insane) or opt out and begin training for the NFL or simply go home to their family.

If a kid agreed after all of that I'd think they wanted to play pretty bad and win as well.

Kane was kind enough to point out the 2 RBs for UNC, he forgot All american LB surratt and all american wide receiver Brown both opted out (in addition to the Rbs) of the NY6 game to start beginning to train for the NFL combine.
