Always great when one sharp horseplayer recognizes another.

Racetracks load up the early part of the card with short fields and short-priced horses.
They like to save the deepest, most contentious races for second half of the card.
In California, the Pick 5 early takeout is 14% while the late Pick 4 takeout is 23.68%.
Big difference.

Belmont gets great horses on their big days, but mostly 5-6 horse fields. It’s tough to go against a big favorite and maybe see 8-5 on the second choice and 2-1 or 5-2 on the third. The later races fill a little better.
