Could not beat the NFL's two toughest teams: Baltimore and Kansas City.

TYVM Morgan William!!!
could not beat the 2 toughest teams

baltimore and chiefs

In all fairness - few did. They went 27-5 in the Reg Season so not many teams beat them, period

Game came down to a pair of 3rd and long plays in 4Q

Chefs made it
49ers did not

Mahomes made the play
Jimmy G did not

Nothing more to say

The 49ers had a 95% chance to win the game (according to several win probability indices) before Mahomes hit Hill for a deep pass on third-and-15 with less than eight minutes left in the game.

Credit Kansas City for overcoming yet another double-digit deficit to win by double-digits.

Congrats to all those who backed the Chiefs.

The figure of 95% should be tempered somewhat considering the history of the team trailing in the game.

Clock management strategy at the end of the 1st half was horrific. You are receiving the kick for 2nd half. Baffling why you would not try to put any points on the board? Clock management trying not to lose usually results in the opposite. Major strategic mistake IMHO.

I agree completely.

Wasted opportunity.

Kyle Shanahan went to the halftime break with two timeouts in his pocket.

Inexcusable.

What if he throws an incomplete, Chiefs use timeouts and they punt? They did fine, no PI call and they get exactly what they wanted. Once you get past the 35 you make a move, inside it with time on the clock you have to figure out how to drain clock and take away opponents time outs.

Lots of strategic mistakes made today but this wasn't one of them.

Against a K.C. defense that was staggering?

I thought Shanahan needed to call a timeout before K.C. punted on 4th-and-long from near midfield late in the second quarter.

Shanny said he was scared to give KC the ball back with their 3 TO's. He was conservative when he should have been aggressive, and aggressive when he should have been conservative.

the great pass defense of the 49ers let the receiver be wide open on a pass ( 3rd and 15 ) that was lobbed to him. It took forever for the ball to get there and nobody within 5 yards it seemed. On a bad day Mahomes still beat the 49ers. When he needed a completion he made it. We will be seeing his face in the playoffs for the next 10 years for sure.

Combining the Falcons-Patriots Super Bowl and Chiefs win over the 49ers, and the late game numbers for Shanahan teams are very stark. In those two games, his teams were outscored a total of 46-0 in the fourth quarter and overtime. That is devastating.
