The worst thing you can do is have a great unexpected first year. Always downhill after that. Reports are he maybe gone tomorrow, end of season a certainty.

Not many second HC chances for blacks unless your name is Romeo.

You do it because the interim coach doesn't play favorites, he gets the full roster some playing time and lets the organization see what talent they have from 1-53 or whatever roster size you want to consider it this season.

I think they are favorites to hire Eric Bienemy. This org loves coaches from their rivals for some reason and fair or not Bienemy is going to get some credit for the KC offensive success.

That would be a homecoming of sorts. Chargers drafted Bienemy in second round of the 1991 NFL draft.

Eric Bieniemy has been passed over for NFL head coaching jobs two years in a row.

Maybe it's more than just the color of his skin?

Hmmm...

Two of Andy Reid's once-hailed disciples, Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy, likely will be looking for jobs at season's end.

Well he's the O Coordinator for an Andy Reid team so I don't blame people for questioning what he's really accomplished. He supposedly was asked if he wanted to interview at CU for the head coaching job that might have led to a path forward but he said he wanted to stay in the NFL.

Doug Pederson should get hired in a second. Just a bad situation in Philly right now but Super Bowl winning coaches don't stay unemployed for long.

I could see Bienemy getting the J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST! JOB.

If they get Trevor that job instantly becomes a plum job and will all of the draft picks and cap room the J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST! now become the best opening out there

I'm curious if Lynn cans his special teams coach he hired two weeks ago. He was pissed post game. Kickoff return for a td, blocked fg for a td, 10 men on the field on one occasion, 12 men on the next....

Eric is super honest, doesn't BS, and doesn't put up with BS. He's not gonna play the kiss ass game, and perhaps that turns off some of these spoiled, rich, older, white owners, who are used to having their asses kissed, and demand it of black guys especially. I think he'll be a great HQ leader type, like a Tomlin, that the players will go through a wall for. Not an X and O's genius guy, but that's what your assistants and co-ordinators are for. He'd be great for Houston or The Chargers.

Unless he wanted to be a College Coach above all else, it would have been stupid for him to interview for that job, a mmajor step back if his goal is to be an NFL HC. He'd be buried there forever.

The Iggles would be nuts to fire Pederson. He has guts, and he's a leader. He'd be snapped up in a second
Nagy has been saddled with Trubisky and now Foles as starters, and still somehow has a 6 games an over .500 HC record after almost 3 years. He's a smart guy, but his wagon was hitched to Trubisky, because of how he helped in developing Mahomes, and he couldn't overcome that Trubisky isn't in the same universe as Mahomes, He deserved better. He'll likely be fired, and will have to earn another HC shot by going back to be an OC, but his firing would be similar to Detroit's Caldwell's in the be careful what you wish for, and you don't know what you got till it's gone.

Forgive me. Nagy had 3 games of Chase Daniel starting also. The QB's he's been saddled with sealed his fate before he started, and yet he'll leave Chicago after 3 years over .500.

I'm not sure how much credit he gets for that record. If he's the QB whisperer, he really hasn't made Mitch any better, nor have they won many games because of the offense. His big claim to fame was letting people know he called the plays in Mahomes first start. Nagy was hand-delivered a pro bowler in Mack, so his D was pretty set.

Einstein could whisper to Raiders, it won't make the Idiot smart. The Jury is out on Nagy, but he did have a hand in helping to develop Mahomes. Now it's certainly possible Mahomes is so talented, it wouldn't have mattered who was whispering to him, and Andy whispers louder than anyone there anyway. Nagy will have to re-establish himself elsewhere, maybe helping another young QB fulfill his potential, if he's gonna get another HC chance. He's still very young for a HC candidate.

Besides the Mitch problems, what is the Bears identity on offense? They don't have one.

Heck, even Belichek failed as a HC in Cleveland.

eric is not a head coach, he is andy reids personal assistant and kelce hill and mahomes are making them both look better than they are
That could be the case, but losing teams hire from winning teams (ones with talent). Someone still had to develop Kelse as he was a 3rd rounder.

It's tough to establish an offensive identity when you have inconsistent garbage at QB. Nagy was hired to bring a Andy Reid type WCO there. Then he found out his QB was too stupid and too untalented to handle it, and he's had to consistently dumb it down and simplify it until we've been left with the mess it's been for the last couple of years. Nagy holds blame for that also, because he knew Mitch wasn't in the same universe as Mahomes mentally or physically, when he was a KC assistant heavily involved in the QB draft decision in the 2017 draft. Mahomes blew them all away in the meetings, it wasn't only his physical talent. But he took the Chicago job with at least the vague promise of making Mitch into Mahomes lite, even though it wasn't a realistic possibility.

The Bears haven’t won a playoff game in 10 years and they are getting worse. They have wasted an elite defense on the gamble of the QB. I’m not blaming Mitch for yesterday, I thought he played ok. The D is wearing down now and I don’t see the offense saving it over the long haul.

Bienemy is going to get a shot after this season. The climate right now demands it and despite being a skeptic, he has earned one.

No matter who the Chargers hire, there is plenty of talent on that roster to win immediately.

It's time to blow up the team. If they go from 5-1 to 5-11, there's no choice but to jettison not only Pace but Nagy. I think Pace is already finished. But let's get new ownership. The McCaskeys suck,

Here's what the Bears will do. They will hire McKinzie, or some other search firm, for their GM search. A couple of women, who likely don't know a football from a golf ball, and wouldn't even date a guy into sports, will make the decision on the new GM. Green Bay and Minnesota will be on the ground laughing at the Bears, and in Detroit? The Lions ownership will say, "that search firm sounds like a good idea". And the Jets will echo those sentiments.

Moral of the story: if you have to go to a search firm to find a GM candidate, you don't deserve to own a team.

What hurts Eric are the long playoff runs by KC, he cannot interview while they are playing.

......and he might really get hurt this year because unlike years past when TWO teams had a BYE in round 1 now there is only 1. I think the rules allow for him to interview during the week off teams have in the playoffs but if the Stillers get that BYE he can't speak to anyone. If Chefs do get the BYE maybe he can...........

Ironic how three offensive geniuses - Pederson, Nagy, and Gase have no production from the qb spot, and that is their specialty.

I don't get why Gase and Lynn still have their jobs at this point. It's obvious they are both dead in the water and the players know it. Move on.

Gase: That is easy. Why fire him now? It's not like firing him will help them make the playoffs. Keep him and hope he goes 0-16 so you get Trevor Lawrence next season. The worst thing the J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST can do NOW is bring in someone who will only be there for 4 games and try and win to show he should keep the job or be a HC somewhere else next season.

Lynn: The Spanos family are cheap MoFos. They will keep him because paying more than one coach is something they hate to do.

Whatever these teams do, they need to embrace the idea of adding a position on the staff that acts like a strategic mind. Someone who will tell them in the heat of the battle about when to use timeouts, when to go for it on 4th down, how to optimally use the clock at the end of the half and game, etc. Also would want this guy to be sort of watching away from the coordinators and tell them when they are getting too predictable. Some of this stuff can be done in real time, other parts get done between games or during the offseason. But its such a high value add from someone who isn't necessarily a long time football guy, just someone who can add some logic when everyone is too focused on their roles to see strategically outside of it.

Trubisky played well, all things considered.

HOWEVER, you cannot fumble the ball inside your 10-yard line on a third-and-four pass play late in the fourth quarter.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.
