Any tips regarding the casinos in Detroit?

Re: Any tips regarding the casinos in Detroit?

Lets see, here is my opinion and opinion only. I do visit a couple times a year after growing up in the subs for the first 26 years.

MGM: The most flashy and most catered to place. Not a bad gig overall, and the talent there is deep. If your a highroller than this is your place.

Greektown: The most perferred by out of towners. Caters to the average Joe and has some of the best restaurants just outside the doors. Gotta eat at Fishbones in Greek town. Almost a lock to run into a player or coach from one of the franchises. This is the one casino that I end my night at, after a quick visit to MGM.

Motor City Casino: Very flashy from the outside. Very dangerous outside as well. Not a good area and poory lit outdoors. Just not my gig, but several of my friends still do well at slot tournaments there.

HockeyTown is right across from Comerica Park and is the sports bars of sports bars, a must see while in D-town.

STB.

Very good tip about Hockeytown. We're going to play some poker but I don't play high stakes. You think Greektown to play some poker?

Yeah Greektown is good for poker. Make sure you get there a bit before the evening rush to get right in.

Other Detroit suggestions - in Greektown try The Golden Fleece for really good and inexpensive gyros with a Greek salad. Or try Mexican Village and the Xochimilko restaurant for quality Mexican grub. As far as gambling goes, I think that you would do better across the border in Windsor downtown (take the tunnel) to the Windsor Casino. Have fun at the tournament. I was at Ford Field a year ago for a Lions game and it is a neat spot.
