Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.
Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - It's been two years since Anna Nicole Smith overdosed at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood.
Now, Smith's lawyer boyfriend, Howard Stern, and two doctors are charged in connection to her fatal overdose.
One of Smith's doctors and Stern surrendered and posted bail overnight Thursday. They're facing charges they gave Smith drugs before her fatal overdose back in 2007.
Prosecutors, investigating the case for more than two years, say there were thousands of medications involved. Some prescribed for Smith, some under her alias, and others prescribed for Stern.
It all allegedly lead to a lethal drug cocktail that eventually killed Anna Nicole Smith. It's been very complicated because it involves literally thousands of pills, dangerous chemicals, that have been prescribed under the law of California and in violation of that law.
To give you some perspective, check out the picture to your right, obtained by TMZ.com. They were taken in Smith's bedroom in the Bahamas shortly after she died. The photos show methadone and other medication.
At the time of her death, several prescription medications, both in Smith's and Stern's names, were found in Smith's hotel room at the Hard Rock near Hollywood.
The two doctors and lawyer are charged with eight felonies each. An attorney for the second doctor, Khristine Eroshevich, acknowledged the prescriptions, but said the doctor's intent was never to commit fraud.

Yikes. It's good that they're holding some of these people accountable. Between her and Heath Ledger, someone needs to be monitoring the drugs being handed out to people.
Why can't there be some sort of database that a doctor can go into and see what medications a person has been perscribed? I would think that may put an end to some of these deaths. At the very least, it helps the doctors cover their asses.

Say woman suffering from severe depression has a doctor that, rather than talking to her, just keeps writting out scripts for new meds knowing damn well that you can't just switch from one anti depressant to another. So, a few months later, this woman is unstable, not on the correct meds AND has about 15 bottles of pills in her possesion almost completely full and she decides she can't take it anymore, downs them all and ends up almost dying. Who is responsible there?
