Re: Can a full time -105 book make it without...
Whatever happened to NAB Bill?
Without a doubt he proved why books should NOT be allowed to post.
Also, years ago, wasn't it Wilheim who was absolutely certain that Pinnacle could not succeed with their business model?
Back to topic - I do not think parlays/teasers/buying points are accurately factored into the equation. Simple fact is that most gamblers do not know how to use these betting options correctly (ESPECIALLY point buying).
Also, keep in mind that a book sets its own limits.
I do not believe gamblers are "better" today than 2005. The main problem being information. Years ago one could make a killing with superior information. However, the advent of the internet and increased competitiveness among media services has cancelled that out.
Now the problem is overinformation and the media's efforts to trump each other in reporting it. Tom Brady leaves practice early and it makes the evening news. The Patrioits are innundated with media calls and the 4th string ball boy, feeling so important, is quoted as a reliable source about the severity of Brady's injured ankle. The "informed" gamblers jump on that and pile on the other side.
All this while the reality is that he had to take a shit.
Worse is when one media outlet (and a particular repoter comes to mind) makes up information when he has nothing to report that day. Other outlets, fearing to be out-scooped, repeat the message, adding some key "exclusive" tidbits that are invaribly made up also.
All this serves to create more confusion on the part of the gambler while giving them the false perspective that they have superior information.
