Charlie Daniels dies at age 83 earlier today from a stroke

Saw him at a "Super Jam" in St. Louis at Busch Stadium II (late 70's early 80's). I preferred the song "Long Haired Country Boy" to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". Also saw him in Nashville at his own outdoor all day long music festival "The Volunteer Jam" in 1986. The highlight of that show was a re-union of the "Allman Brothers Band" -- fantastic to see the "Allman Brothers Band" live in their first re-union show.

Interesting note from a Yahoo story on his death follows:

"Daniels was politically vocal throughout his career, leaning towards conservatism although was an early supporter of Democrat Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign and performed at Carter’s inauguration in 1977."

Even though he was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1938, and apparently grew up there. He moved to Nashville, TN, in 1967, with some other stops in other states in between.

Saw him 3+ years ago in Vegas. He could still really bring it.
