Credit ESPN for promoting college football.

Because that's exactly what ESPN is all about: PROMOTION.

They rarely investigate any college football recruiting scandals (Yahoo! usually breaks that news) because ESPN's bosses don't want to hurt business.

And nary a word of criticism about the sleazy coaches, let alone any of the misguided players.

ESPN is a television partner, not a hard-hitting news organization.

They control the Saturday time slots, the college football bowl schedule, the Heisman Trophy award and seemingly everything else college football.

Ditto for college basketball.

Sigh.

It's a damn shame there are those out there who seem to favor or point out the political side of sports rather than what little integrity is left. The 30 for 30's clearly focus more on the documentary as well as the controversial side of sports. the 30 for 30''s clearly cover the behind the scenes especially when it comes to players and coaches. Most of the breaking news originally slated as "overlooked' or misguided is also covered in the current by Scott Van Pelt and the next morning in the live broadcasts rather than the taped telecast versions.

i think football is less dirty than basketball.

Football and men's basketball support the entire athletic department at most major universities.

And while the men's basketball tournament generates incredible revenue for NCAA members, football programs still create more money for the universities by a significant margin (nearly 4:1) over their basketball counterparts.

One of the biggest differences between an amateur football player (Tim Tebow, Cam Newton or Trevor Lawrence) and an amateur hoopster (Anthony Davis, Trae Young or Zion Williamson) is the term of commitment to the school.

Star football players are locked in for at least three years while hoopsters who create national headlines are one-and-done guys.

They're not supposed to be a hard hitting news organization, ESPN stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, and that's what they provide, entertainment and sports. You want hard hitting news? Go watch 60 Minutes. Besides, they've done many investigative stories through the years, that show Outside the Lines used to do stories like that
