Do you miss the fans?

I didn't think I would but the games in all sports just lack energy or enthusiasm. There just seems to be a feeling like not everyone wants to be there. They all feel like exhibition games.

I think the NHL and NBA using artificial noise has made for a better TV watching experience. The Premier League started this off and it worked great

I hear the players sporadically cheering, at least. What also adds a positive but weird response feeling are the virtual monitors of a few hundred fans cheering after a great play or game ending win. Just not the same though as actually being there. Probably softens the blow a bit as teams only have to play 60 games plus the postseason. I'm not sure I could sdapt fully over 162+.

At lest KBO is still practicing social distancing whole allowing about 10% capacity per game, which is roughly 2,500 fans.

The NBA has become that in the last week as they go through the end of season lull, but I don't see it in the others. As usual teams doing their tanking and load management making it easy to ignore until playoffs start.

Not having the fans in college football will be brutal. The fans, band, and cheerleaders are a big selling point.

In Sept 2009 I saw a game at Notre Dame. I HATE the Irish. But seeing a game there is awesome. A MUST SEE for any CFB fan. Sad to know that will not exist in 2002. Hopefully 2021 but who knows?

I had field seats twice for ND-USC in the USC section. The cheerleaders were as good as advertised.

I wonder if players would admit to enjoying the fact that there isn't any fans.

Especially the opponent when playing in Boston or NYY or NYM.

I like it.

College football is going to be interesting to see what develops.

I watched the Sixers-Raptors game last night.

The starters for both teams were on their feet cheering for back-ups late in the fourth quarter of a competitive game.

Brett Brown and Adrian Griffin decided to allow their subs decide the game as most starters played limited minutes.

To see Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakim emphatically cheer on the sidelines against Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris was a highlight.

The back-and-forth, in-your-face celebrations were interesting.

This has been going on for days. The Nuggets were trying to tank and get into 4th place by playing their bench against the Lakers and everyone got excited when the subs outscored the Lakers quite a bit. Of course could say the Lakers weren't trying hard either. Then the Rockets responded by going easy in their games to insure they didn't win too much and get the hated #3 seed, seems everyone wants to be in line to play the Lakers. NBA could solve for all this BS by reseeding after rounds like the NHL and NFL does, but for some nonsensical reason they don't so you see even more tanking by more teams. And then casual observers see this and say why should I watch if one teams subs are playing another teams subs.

I watched the Nuggets-Lakers game too.

You described the situation beautifully, Bill.

NHL restart > NBA restart

It was probably not the cheerleaders but the Song Girls - the latter where white sweaters and our imagination runs wild seeing that

By dumb luck we sat above the student section so when the game ended the players did the Alma Mater right in front of us. I hate Notre Dame but anyone who is a CFB fan MUST attend a game there. Get there no later than early Friday so you can tour the amazing campus and see the Pep Rally. As JK said - if you are going to bet against ND do it before the Pep Rally because you will leave it thinking ND will win on Saturday 375-0.

If you go to Notre Dame do not be as stupid as my friend and I were. We left the game and then drove 300 miles, taking 5.5 hours and arrived in Green Bay at 1A and saw the Packers play 11 hours later. This is the game we were at. He leaped into the other corner of the end zone we were at

Tomorrow has to be the dumbest slate of games ever in the history of the NBA. Why don't they just cancel it? Fans are so looking forward to games that have the look and feel of the first game of the NFL preseason.

It gives the fans, and coaches a chance to look at the second unit. If this were an 82 game regular season, you'd see the same thing. Perhaps starters play 10-15 minutes at the most just to stay sharp. Games might not have much bearing in the standings, but it gives coaches options on how to use their reserves in the postseason.

Exactly, sounds like week one of NFLX.

Boston Bruin goalie Rask is right though. It has to feel very dull playing without any fans watching. You're stuck between a rock and hard place if you're an athlete essentially an entertainer.

Watch the Bruins go far without him and then the team quietly comes together and says screw him and his career heads to a dead end after he gets paid one last year mostly sitting on the bench. We all make choices but they come with consequences. Hockey is not like the other sports, its a real collective team spirit as you have seen very few guys have opted out. Trust me if guys were getting Rona for going out when they weren't supposed to be an NHL team would have quietly but fiercely handled it internally.
