Eighty-two games in this year's NBA season

And I have to find out through a Lebron James article defending Frank Vogel's coaching performance and current 8th seed that the league is once again doing a play in tournament?

Again I'm not one for this type of change, as MLB got rid of the DH as well as the runner at second every extra half inning to start, but outside the excitement to those who like this sort of setup (and of course anything that generates extra revenue) why not just go back to the old 1 8 2 7 format and so on and so forth?

And I'm not attempting to answer my own question.

I'm okay with the expanded playoff format in the NBA.

7 versus 10 and 8 versus 9 in a one-and-done situation.

Feels like an appetizer before the playoffs begin in earnest.

More gambling inventory, too.

Television loves the expanded format because it starts the playoff season with a Game 7 scenario.

Seems to have worked for MLB.

Last year may have been the exception with GS and the Lakers involved in the play-ins. I thought it worked nicely though.

I love the play-ins myself, especially for the NBA. None of these teams seems a real threat to win it anyways, but it does keep more teams involved at the end and it goes beyond just the losing teams. Teams that were around 4-6 in the past would cruise for 2 weeks not caring about the games until the playoffs, but now they have to keep at it or get dropped into playing games for their lives.

I don't think one game situations make sense to decide your champion, but when sorting out the mess of mostly no chance teams its fun to watch and adds a lot of interest for many additional teams. Its worked well in baseball and baseball really is a sport where you could say the game matters because a wild card could certainly win a title. NBA, not so much unless you get some team that was injured all year and just puts it together at the end. Even then, winning an extra game or two shouldn't be that tough for them if they are real contenders.

I just think if you go back to an 82 game schedule, that the postseason format should follow suit and readopt the original routine No need to grant new life to two seeds ending up 9 and 10 respectively and provide rhem wildcard type shots to make it to 7 and 8 respectively after you've played a full regular season to determine the once official field.

Money talks Jimmy.

LBJ and his spokespeople are going to bitch about a play in game as usual but someone ought to point out hey LeBron why can't you beat teams like Memphis missing their best player? Is Desmond Bane too strong for you guys to stop them?
