Have you authored a will or trust?

Interested in serving as custodian or trustee for both ComptrBob and Squarepants.

I only look dumb.

:)

LOL, well hopefully there'll be no need anytime soon, but ya' never know, especially these days.

Might be best these days to be the heir and/or beneficiary of someone with an extensive stockpile of toilet paper.

All the other fiat-currency-based assets ultimately may prove to be worthless; and if that happens they'll probably confiscate physical gold in private hands, similar to FDR in the '30's.

I have not. If something happens my family will deal with it and I am sure will distribute things the right way

If you don't have a will, the Probate court in your state of California will process your estate as it sees fit (assuming you haven't married and that it has any assets worth allocating).

Usually the closest family members will decide who gets what, which may be what you wanted or not. Anyone from your extended family or close business entity can challenge the judgement in court.

Unfortunately a friend of ours on this very forum is
Going to require one soon. I’ve tried as hard as I can to obviate the necessity for this and steer him
Toward a different path.

I am 100% sure my family would be civil in all that took place. Odds are they would split it between my nephew and nieces. As I said - I am not worried and CA will not be stepping in

Thats good.

I just looked up the asset level to trigger probate in CA, its roughly $166k, otherwise you just die intestate . Needed only if title assets are in the estate like a car, condo, house, etc. and ownership transfer has to be made. Also many assets like a car, stocks, life insurance can have a transfer on death beneficiary.

I'd like an upfront fee.

Not how it works.

Pretty sure any fees are stated in revocable trusts and usually are based on the size of the revocable trust and are determined according to a schedule in the revocable trust once the total amount of the trust is ascertained. Fees, if any, are usually paid at the time the revocable trust is distributed.

Irony being the strongest force in the universe, one probably would contract COVID-19 while doing the paperwork for the will or trust.

I'm basically deferring anything and everything that (I at least hope) can wait. Kind of silly to shut down the country and telework from home only to then run around and about interacting with other folks, including especially lawyers. Sort of like physical cash, you never really know where they've been, lol.

physical cash will be toast, 1 world money coming soon. hopefully not pre rapture

The elimination of physical cash is a distinct possibility. There had been a push for that already; and, as that policymaker saying goes, you should never let a good crisis go to waste.

Thereafter resulting in (a) taxation, financial haircuts in hard times (think Crete during the financial crisis), etc., etc. being able to be pulled by banks and/or the government seamlessly directly from "your" accounts (which actually aren't yours, just a contingent, qualified obligation by the bank), with no possibility of hoarding cash (the holding of actual physical gold likely no longer being allowed); and (b) your every single move involving money then being trackable even more so than it is now.

Lawyers, however, are a different matter, the Shakespeare quote notwithstanding, we're likely to have those for a while.
