On a tag play, the laces of the glove do not count.

The fielder must tag the runner with glove and ball or ball in hand.

The laces do not factor in the tag.

Tie does NOT go to the runner.

The opposite, in fact, is true.

Rule 7.01 - "A runner acquires the right to an unoccupied base when he touches it before he is out."

The key word here is "before."

The instant the ball touches the fielder's mitt, if the runner was not there BEFORE the ball, he must be called out—no leeway.

One situation we never see with umpires these days: The selling of a call.

Before replay, umpires would make an emphatic safe or out call as if he were certain of the bang-bang play.

No need to sell calls nowadays only to get embarrassed when the boys in New York reverse your decision.

Of course, the manager-umpire arguments have all but disappeared as well.

Our high school coach wanted us to leave debris around the catcher on pop ups to the catcher, meaning flip off your helmet and drop the bat around plate area.

On-deck guys were to drop bat and run and knock donut off of bat, if possible.

Since I was unable to officiate HS Hoops the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season, my assigner helped me land a gig running the clock at some local HS. I had a few games today, Friday/7. They were Girls JV and Boys Freshmen. The 2 officials were relatively new. I helped them out when I saw something they did wrong. During halftime or between games I would tell them what they did, why it was wrong, and how to do it the right way.

There was a call on the baseline and the official made the call but not with any conviction. I told him he needed to "sell the call." Be emphatic about it and people will buy it far more than if wishy-washy. Something you stated no longer need be done today in MLB

This might be the weirdest rule of all: We all know the least amount of hits a pitcher can give up in a CG, 9-inning shutout is.......0! Do you know what the most is? A pitcher can actually give up 54 hits and STILL throw a CG Shutout. He gives up 3 singles. The next 3 batters all hit a ball that hits a runner before it passes a fielder. The runner is OUT. Runners only move up if forced to do so. The runner from 2nd to 3rd would be Out. The runner from 1st to 2nd then takes 2nd base and the batter goes to first. The batter is given a single on the play. 3 singles 3 batted balls hit runners, 3 outs but 6 singles in an inning - 54 for the game. No runs

Couldn't those moves be labeled interference?
