Looks like Minor League Baseball is Dead....

MLB wanted to eliminate 42 minor-league teams last fall.

COVID-19 is simply accelerating the process.

A total of 160 minor league teams seems extreme.

Whatever the market will bear.

Great time to re-work the entire set-up.

Why not two minor league teams for every big league club?

Market the minor league teams more closely with their parent club.

Here in Chicago, the Cubs have a good relationship with the Iowa Cubs.

Just reworking the structure. No reason for teams to be supporting that many players in their systems. Independent teams can take on a handful of prospects each season. MLB teams really only need AAA and maybe AA under control. Kids that aren't drafted can play at the lower levels and get signed as free agents later. Makes total sense to me, gives them a better opportunity to keep playing around home and if it doesn't work out they just go back to civilian life.

You should only eat what you kill.

If minor league teams cannot make it financially, then Major League Baseball should cut them loose.

A number of players go from Double-A to the big leagues these days without ever stopping at Triple-A.

Too many minor league teams make the sport hard to follow.

A little bit like the countless number of alphabet-soup boxing organizations.

Major League is expanding rosters....A lot of cities losing their past time.....

Screw this virus.....

IF they play MLB this season you almost have to go to something like a 30-man roster

I also think they will not be enforcing the "must pitch to 3 hitters" rule this season

Also think they might have to have every game played with a DH, too.

The DH rule is almost certain since they probably mix AL and NL teams. I think they could have the three batter rule though, good way to test it out with expanded rosters.

Not with pitchers not getting as much of a "spring training" as normal. I am almost certain that rule gets scrapped for 2020 and if 2021 starts late (and it might) that, too

The games will be insufferable if there are 17 pitchers on a staff and they are allowed to face one batter. People will remember in a couple of days why they stopped caring about baseball.

If I were a baseball manager, I would never use a mediocre fifth starter.

Instead, I'd start my best right-handed reliever at first base and my best left-handed reliever on the mound.

Through the first two innings, every pitcher/batter match-up would be righty versus righty and lefty versus lefty.

Neither pitcher would make a plate appearance in the early innings as my regular first baseman and best pinch-hitter would be ready to hit.

The goal would be to grab an early lead and hang on the rest of the way with a bunch of bullpen arms.

If one of my pitchers committed an error while playing first base, I would purposely get ejected from the game so as not to face the media for postgame questions.

Haha.
