The NBA is in discussions to take over a Las Vegas hotel and conduct the NBA playoffs there.

No fans, only television cameras.

Mandalay Bay is the hotel.

UFC should put up a monster card for free on ESPN or even ABC

Viewership would be thru the roof... would rival the Super Bowl

First sport back is going to gain in popularity. Golf blew a big opportunity it's to keep playing.

So true. Have them play now and carry their own bags,. No touching the flag sticks. Average fans would love to see that replicates the golf going on in the country now. Can easily maintain 6 feet of distance.

You could keep the caddies employed and maintain the arbitrary 6 feet. You could even let in limited fans. TV would be the beneficiary.

Is the court a regulation one? I sense The Orleans is only a College regulation court meaning 84x50 and not the 94x50 the NBA uses. That 10-feet makes a massive difference, SoCal HS usually plays on a 74x50 with some places being 84x50. Refs know the difference so no doubt the players do, too

Makes a lot of sense. Can set up the convention center to have 4 courts and use the arena for a fifth as needed. Can also have room for a separate press center and lots of easy staging opportunities outside in the convention parking lot. Could do things like have players come out and speak to the fans and media but keep them 30 feet away. I just wonder how long MGM would be willing to keep Mandalay closed to the public. The Four Seasons is not really needed until business travel resumes and maybe they could close the Delano and create a special NBA only path to keep it sterile. But within some months MGM is going to want to get the main tower and casino running again.

Can it be done safely? How much would the performance level degrade without the crowd noise?

Draymond Green would probably not even get a technical?

Refs might call the game accurately and lose the homer disease.

You make a good point with the crowd noise, Bucky.

There was a game at Madison Square Garden a few years ago with no extraneous noise.

If memory serves, the players complained about not being able to get into a rhythm and the game was a low-scoring affair.

Carmelo Anthony did not like the set-up.

I'll search for more details.

Maybe they can pipe in crowd noise. Designate a home team and have a technician lower and increase noise on shot makes, controversial calls, etc. Defense chants when necessary as well.

The crowd roar! That you hear from the bench. Otherwise, it is just practice. There are a lot of players that need the crowd roar, feed off it. Coaches talk about it - he/she is a totally different player at game time.

What a treat to be at a big time game with a great seat and hear it/feel it!

Interestingly, a lack of crowd noise could help NFL teams score more points.

Some loud fan bases in NFL stadiums cause problems for visiting offensive teams as they strain to hear the snap count.

Think Seattle.

More I think of it, more Vegas makes sense. Once the "playoffs" start you could let in say 2k spectators who are kept a distance from the floor and pay premium prices to be spaced out in the arena. Just no Courtside seats and maybe pairs of seats then separated from each other with two empty seats. Line up the rows so no one is in front or behind them. May not be done week one but certainly as the stakes increase NBA will gladly take that revenue stream as long as they can keep a path that separates the public from the NBA people.

I'm trying to set up a seance with the spirit of Patrick McQuiggan to get some tips. So far all I get is "That's all for our fast moving show".
That's all for our fast moving show, JK's signature line.I would always laugh when jk left the show, Patrick would use the same line

Mandalay Bay was the final resting place of Stephen Padock.

Still visualize the curtains billowing out the windows of the VIP suite on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay.

Eerie, to say the least.

I'm surprised MGM Mirage re-branded Monte Carlo Resort and Casino to Park MGM and did not change the name of Mandalay Slay, err..., Mandalay Bay.
