Number one seed should get to choose opponent

If I'm Ravens, I would prefer #4 seed Houston instead of #6 seed Tennessee.

Next thing you'll prefer: Wild card games within the same division.

You might want to doublecheck...read somewhere that 2 teams from same division cannot play each other in the first round....I could be wrong

Steelers and Bengals met during Wild Card weekend in 2015.

Colts and Texans last season.

There are no restrictions regarding NFL teams from the same division meeting in any round.

Correct.

Seeding is determined for each conference by the 4 divisional winners on best record (first 2 get a bye, and home field in next round) and then the next 2 best records in the conference are the wild cards (with a myriad of tiebreakers if necessary). Nothing precludes divisional teams from meeting at any point. In fact, if the 2 wild cards are from the same division and the divisional winner is the 3 or 4 seed, it is certain that there will be a divisional game in the first round. It is also certain that the 6th seed cannot have a home game thru the conference championship game.

Just like in baseball.

Not like baseball.

I have long advocated for a draft of opponents in all sports. Imagine the blowback on the teams that picked a team and lost. Would make for some great theater and the leagues would get a highly rated show out of it.

Tenn is the team that Cleveland was supposed to be - a power running team with a playmaker at QB. The QB part didn’t play out, because Tenn dominated the line of scrimmage early.

Why would the general public or sports wagering community want to waste their time hearing or discussing the debate of "Our team screwed up because they chose to play this team instead of that team?" You're rewriting and violating the seedings structure. At least have a probable justification as to why you're doing as such, like the NBA did in terms of overall record initiated before a game was played.

I kind of like that idea too.

Come first why not have the ability to avoid a bad match-up or a red hot team that streaked to make the playoffs late.

Especially when a limp division winner is guaranteed one of the top four seeds.

Remember when #5-seeded New Orleans was a 9.5-point road favorite at #4-seeded Seattle in the 201(?) NFL playoffs.
