Was just goofing on the title, now that I read the article....

Lost 1.5 million the last month gambling, 7 dependents living with him?

What's he been following my plays or something?

And 7 dependents? Dude is 29? Is that what he claims for tax purposes or real?

Is this the NHL or the NFL?

They stating he might not play this season?

So many questions, so few answers.

We move on.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas filed suit against Evander Kane last April.

The Cosmo claimed Kane owed them $500,000 in casino markers.

But the casino dropped its suit against Kane shortly thereafter.

Not sure if Kane made good on the loan or if there was a misunderstanding of some sort.

Hmmm...

I'd strongly lean towards the former than the latter. At least some kind of settle, probably not the full amount.

Seems kind of arbitrary to accuse someone of reneging on half a million dollar marker, doubt it was made up out of thin air.

On the topic though anyone hear of something similar happening to a NHL player from Chicago?

I believe there were plenty of gamblers on Blackhawk teams through the years.

The obvious two: the head coach, Joel Quenneville, and the NBC analyst Ed Olczyk.

They're both horseplayers.

I think Dennis Savard had an interest in the ponies, too.

And Jeremy Roenick strikes me as a gambler.

Not a hockey guy but I'll research gambling among NHL players.

I remember Rick Tocchet came under federal investigation at one point during his career.

With Las Vegas now having NHL and NFL franchises, look for more gambling issues in years to come.

Las Vegas casinos are strict on unpaid debts.

The Nevada courts treat markers as checks.

So the gambler is accused of passing bad checks.

Thanks for the info but swing and miss on my part John....

The last sentence of my post was an extension of the title, part II demonstration of my rather dry sense of humor.

:( :(

By law they have to be, casinos in Nevada are not allowed to loan money to players even though markers are often erroneously termed "credit". They can hold a marker for up to 30 days, I believe, but it has to be explained with a reason and if it goes any longer they would have a regulatory issue and possibly a fine. It is selectively enforced but usually with international players as casinos will just say we are having banking issues collecting the money from international sources.
