If first team to have the ball punts and the other team muffs the punt or it hits someone and the punting team recovers is that considered a possession for both teams where a fg wins the game now.

Good question, Sporty.

FW was right.

Both teams are given "the opportunity" to possess the ball at least once in overtime UNLESS the team that receives the overtime kickoff scores a touchdown on its first possession.

Interesting note: There is NO halftime break after two 15-minute overtime sessions in the postseason.

Hmmm....

So much for player safety.

In 2017, overtime sessions in the preseason and regular season were reduced to 10 minutes in the name of player safety.

Sure does. Goes in the books as a turnover.

If anything, neutralizing the rule would be allowing a halftime session after 2 OT periods without one after the first OT.

Only two-minute breaks between overtime quarters in the postseason.

A new coin toss will take place after a fourth overtime period.
