Shaq or Kobe...Who You Got?

Naturally Jerry Buss made the right decision. Shaq's work ethic was slowly declining but if you were to start a team
is there any question who you'd pick?

Shaq’s game doesn’t fit into today’s NBA.

Why do you say that? The triangle offense worked well with Shaq's agility. The game has changed now because most
big guys coming out are plodders. You can't have offenses go thru guys like even Jokic anymore.

Theee’s and dunks are today’s game, in that order.

Kobe's game sucks for these days too, no one wants a wannabe hero who tries long contested 2s. Kobe never won without a top quality center, all those years he was putting up his biggest numbers his teams didn't amount to shit. He would have half the accolades he ended up with if the Grizzlies didn't hand them a few extra titles with the Gasol giveaway.

I agree with this. I think you do have to evaluate what/where the current game is.

At times the big man was the starting/stopping point it seems for great teams......

Now they are probably as minimized as they've ever been. Big is still great but have to bring more to the table.....

Durant, Nowitski, AD types.

Overall though I'd prefer Shaq over Kobe. I've never personally rated Kobe as high as the rest of the world it seems......

Respectfully disagree, Patrick.

Shaq himself called Kobe the best player in the NBA in 2002.

Let's not forget, Shaq was six years older than Kobe.

I want Kobe's competitive fire over Shaq's poor work habits.

The opening odds start here
At his peak, O'Neal was literally unstoppable. If he ran at defenders in the open court full steam, no one could stop that freight train.

He changed the way defenses played and how the game was officiated because of how strong he was. Kobe could only dream about that kind of physical impact.

People remember Bryant's dominance first because it's still fresh in their minds. But when the Diesel was running on all cylinders, there was never a more unstoppable player.

Scoring was the only thing Bryant could do at his peak. He played elite defense, able to go one-on-one against the oppositions best scorer, play passing lanes and help out with a big block or defensive stop. Shaq diesel for me.

There's good news and bad news for Shaquille O'Neal supporters.

The good news: He shot at an incredible 58% from the field.

The bad news: He shot a pathetic 53% from the free-throw line.

Hard to find many NBA players who shot a higher career percentage when guarded than unguarded.

Hard to be an elite NBA closer when you constantly miss free throws.

That was Shaq's kryptonite.

This might sound odd, but when you consider how many dunks he had in his career, and that every shot he took was in the paint, and how bigger and stronger he was than anyone guarding him, 58% seems a little low. For every 100 shots he took he missed 42, maybe I'm being a little too critical, but you would have thought he'd make a higher percentage of shots than he did, no one could guard him and every shot he took was within 3 feet of the basket

There were two versions of Shaq: The young Shaq and the old Shaq.

It's too bad the young, athletic Shaq did not stay fit enough to benefit from the older, wiser version.

Shaq had no touch.

He was like a bull in a china shop.

Yao Ming, on the other hand, was much bigger than Shaq and yet he could flick his wrist like a slick guard or forward.

Yao Ming is one of the members of the Communist Party of China ... When you watch president Xi speak in front of their congress you will see Yao Ming there.

Magic and Shaq were being nice at a funeral. I dont think they really meant it. I was in Orlando scalping tickets in 1993, Shaq was worth 10 pts to that team. When Kobe was out thee team would often play better because chemistry was better. Id take Shaq in a heart beat over kobe. kobe was a selfie.

Kobe not a top 5 laker.

Blasphemy.

I'm torn between Kobe and Magic as the greatest Laker.

Tough call too between Kobe and Magic as the most-loved Laker.

Kobe's early passing may give him the edge.

Poor LeBron is having a hard time with Laker fans because of all the Kobe love.

Buss got lucky because he had heard Kobe wanted out and Buss was leaning towards moving him, however during a exhibition game
in Hawaii, Shaq hit a turn-a-round jumper and looked over at Buss and shouted 'pay me', Shaq was done as a Laker after that.
