Should Justin Fields...

...take out his earrings, take his necklace and doo rag off when he plays? If he is going to dress like a punk on the field, atleast play well, he didnt do either. Bears are suckers for drafting this punk. All the espn blacks and jews are saying growing pains, but the reality of it he sucks. He is not ready now, and will NEVER be ready.

Yes, their O line is terrible at pass protection. But there has to be concerns re: Fields. Holding the ball too long; not progressing thru reads. I think one needs to give a QB two years. But right now, this isn’t an upgrade over Trubisky.

His body language yesterday was just awful on the sidelines. No idea if he’s any damn good, I know he doesn’t have a chance with these coaches though.

Here's my theory on the Bears organization, after growing up in the area, and living there unti 2015:

The McCaskey family somehow built an incredible team in the mid 80s. OK, Jim Finks built it but they had to hire him. It was an incredible defense, a legendary RB, and a quarterback who wouldn't lose the games for them.

Fast forward, all the rule changes since the mid to late 80s have favored the offense. The Bears are still focused on a dominating defense first. The 2006 team in some ways, resembled the mid 80s team. No not as dominant, but a great defense and got to the Super Bowl with a mediocre QB. The 2018 team was fraudulent; some top line defenders but they relied on gimmick plays offensively.

The McCaskeys are still living in 1987. The game has changed; they haven't adapted. They clearly do not have the right people in place to judge quarterbacks. Rick Mirer? Then the one year guys like Kordell Stewart and Chris Chandler. Rex Grossman in the first round? THey trade a couple number 1s for Jay Cutler. Cutler wasn't horrible but if he holds all your franchise passing records, its not good. Then the 3 number ones to move up 1 spot to draft a guy (Trubisky) that San Francisco had no interest in. Now they move up to draft an OSU quarterback who's biggest questions were about progressing thru his reads. Ever think anyone questioned Brady, Peyton or Brees progressing thru reads? Of course not, as that should be a huge factor in judging a QB.

Just to echo your point about QB ability to progress his reads. I watched pretty much the entire Cincinnati / Baltimore game yesterday, I was very impressed how Joe Burrow was progressing his reads and getting rid of the football. I cannot comparing him to Tom Brady at this point, but he certainly has the chance to become a tier one QB. Having a great offensive line and knowing how to protect your own body (to avoid injury) are a necessity to the success of a tier one QB.

They need to have Fields sit down and watch film on Lamar Jackson.

He's not a pocket passer, as demonstrated yesterday with two fumbles
(lost) deep in their zone.

He'll get better, of course, but for now use his escapability as a asset,
and pray he doesn't get hurt.

I was hoping he would be more like Prescott or Watson. Unfortunately the game is too fast for him right now. I really don’t know the plan in Chicago. They have pissed away too much offensive talent and let a pretty solid D get old.

did watch a lot of Cinn-Balt also, Burrow was great.

Mike Tomczak wasn’t horrible.

Tom Tupa anyone?

Tomczak came from my hometown of Calumet City, Illinois.

He was a T.F. North graduate.

Little-known fact: When Art Schlichter was a senior at Ohio State, Tomczak was a freshman.

Tomczak's only role during his freshman year was holder on extra-point attempts.

As a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomczak was a league-average (if that) NFL quarterback.

But Tomczak truly maximized his skill level.

He was a gamer.

However, one part of the Steelers' game plan always frustrated Tomczak.

The Steelers drafted Kordell Stewart (nicknamed Slash) in the mid-1990's and they would employ him at quarterback in the red zone.

So, Tomczak would drive his team from their 20-yard line to the opposing team's 20-yard line and then Stewart would come in to score points and reap all the glory.

Tough league.

Progression of reads was the reason Fields got beat out at Georgia. Thought he progressed with this at OSU.

In terms of college reads, yes. But a whole different ballgame being able to progress thru reads on Sunday.

I remember a comment Fields made after an exhibition game this year. "Surprised the game wasn't faster". I think he's seen the game speed up.

Exactly. If you’re getting knocked for reads on Saturday look out Sunday. He did show a propensity to improve. Maybe it’ll happen on this level. Or maybe not.

Easy to process the reads at Ohio St when they are up 17 in the 2nd Qtr. Not so much fun when teams know he has to pass in the NFL.

Love it, FW.

Peyton Manning once delivered a classic line about the difference between the passing games in college and pro football.

Manning said, "On Saturdays, every receiver is open; Sundays, no one is open."

After the game, Chicago quarterback Justin Fields was asked about his 22-yard touchdown run that pulled the Bears within a point of San Francisco in the fourth quarter.

Fields used one word to describe his big play, "Amazing."

That response surprised me.

No one asked the obvious follow-up question: What happened to the Bears' offense after the big play?

The answer: The Bears ran five plays over the final nine minutes of the game, gained a grand total of one yard, punted once and threw an interception that sealed the victory for the 49ers.

Just heard the entire Justin Fields' press conference.

He did recognize a couple of downfield blocks on his spectacular 22-yard run.

My apologies if I made it sound like he was selfish.

Talks like a team guy though his body language on the sidelines says otherwise.

One big problem for the Bears: They're paying $10 milliion apiece to back-up quarterbacks Andy Dalton and Nick Foles.

Additionally, tight end Jimmy Graham is making $10 million while sitting out the season due to COVID-19.

That's a waste of $30 million that could have been used for a left tackle, an elite receiver and a couple of cornerbacks who are not afraid to tackle.

Shame on GM Ryan Pace.

Pace is awful with salary cap management, same goes for trading away future picks. That is the best source for cap-friendly talent. The only trade that has panned out was trading up for Montgomery..
