In a video I saw of him this year he stated he donated $450,000,000 to oklahoma st.

A childhood friend of mine was on the committee that was charged with handling the huge stock donations that Pickrns made, one of the things he did was turn a football stadium that was rusting away into a pretty nice facility. Another friend sold golf course equipment to the private Boone Pickens golf course in West Texas, said he thought he was lost the first time he went to the golf course after driving 20 miles on a 2 lane country road then finally finding the golf course.

Pickens basically ran the athletic department for many years and that was somewhat a problem. He wanted to run the football program, Mike Gundy was hired a coach it, neither saw eye-to-eye
