Dewey is a good man. I'll never forget how he won thousands playing poker yet wouldn't quit his job as a kindergarten teacher because "the paycheck is a sure thing". I knew him back in Vegas in the 90s, he was brilliant at sizing up people away from the game, he could spend 30 seconds talking to a guy and say if he was going to be good on his debts or not. He got me backing a couple of players who made me some money and kept me away from a few that I later heard were trying to work a way out of paying what they owed to their backers or didn't pay back their debts in general, including one pretty big name in poker that some of you would recognize.

on betting favorites laying -200

" why bet 2 if you already have 1"

" fear the guy with his 1 looking for your 2"

on bad beats

the story is worth more then the money

the story lasts forever and you get to tell it a million times
the loss is just another loss.

WHAT you bet is far more important than WHO you bet............................Betting on an NFL team at -2 is a far different bet than -4

Yet for most squares they only thinking of playing games Saturday when they get to the casino book. They see ND -11 and lay it because they will kill Navy but they didn't know earlier in the week it was ND -7. They bet ND -11 and gripe about a "bad beat" when ND wins by 10 not knowing up until Thursday they could have had ND -7

In this day of technology with info at your fingertips, I question how often this scenario still exists.

You're right on both counts.

Played a LOT of poker with his ex-wife, fortunately she played nothing like he did.

Great guy.

We all know successful gambling cannot be reduced to just relying on one piece of best advice.
Gambling is like a business where you need to develop strong management systems for all functional aspects of your gambling.

However, I do often think about what Dutch Boyd once asked an interviewer when discussing poker...“who’s in the game?”
This question can equally be applied to sport betting.

Most of the gambling advice I have gotten over the years has been so so, much of it hasn't really stood up to the test of time. I believe you really have to learn things the hard way and have to experience a lot of seasons trying out a lot of things until you can find the one that works for you best. There are no secret formulas to become great at this, its never ending practice and refinement and even then don't expect what works for you today to work forever. I think with good money management and a lot of outs most people can do this at almost no effective edge for the house so be disciplined, learn to not chase losses or action and keep a level head and at worst this hobby has a very modest cost and can be a little money maker over time.

Doyle, Chip and Dewey known as the " pokers " bet alot of money on baseball back in the 80's and 90's.
Remember them having a service called line movers. Chip also had a program for baseball where he had people moving money for a 20% free roll. He won more units in baseball than anyone in any other sport, even Billy Walters.
