The Yankees caught a break with the new playoff system

Looks to me like the Yankees, Toronto and Houston would have been on the outside looking in. Wonder how they will do?

I guess the Padres would have had one wild card. But, Cincinnati and Miami would have tied for the other spot. Milwaukee and St Louis would have been out.

The last day of the season was a Jim Dandy on who would finish where!

In an 162 game season the Divisional winners and those teams that earned byes via the best record get the shaft. It needs to be bid adieu.

I think this playoff format stays. These 3 game series are going to be intense and great to watch.

Adding more randomness to an already-random shootout.

Hmmm...

The MLB regular season is diminished greatly with the playoff field expanded from 10 to 16 teams.

Not as bad as the WNBA where eight of the 12 teams qualify for the postseason, but still...

The Milwaukee Brewers made the postseason this year without ever boasting a record above .500.

On nine occasions, the Brewers had a chance to attain a winning record and lost all nine times.

The Twins caught a break by having the Yankees on the opposite side of the AL bracket.

Tomorrow, the Twins will try to snap a 16-game losing streak in the MLB postseason.

Thirteen of the 16 Minnesota losses came at the hands of the New York Yankees.

William Hill was dealing Minny -159 earlier tonight.

Greinke v Maeda.

I don't like the bracketed format.

Why not re-seed after every round?
Agree

What this format did was eliminate a great division race between the White Sox, Twins, and Indians. Minn actually made up a 3-game deficit in the last 8 days to win the division.

Why re-reward teams after each round? You're just adding to an already snafu.Once you're seeded, you could honestly look back and point out which teams advanced because they held the higher seed and those who tanked for whatever reason.

Earlier today i was surprised that the Yankees are a pick to win the series vs Cleveland but +600 to win the WS while the Indians are a whopping +1600.

I am curious if one of these teams that caught a break will catch lightning in a bottle and make it to the World Series???

The Reds could be that team...starting pitching is there....bullpen improved.....and bats heating up.....probably had the best record of any team over the last 15 games.....and after all that's 25% of the season....lol

Actually both Ohio teams could.

Reseeding would add some more merit to getting the #1 seed so that you constantly get the weakest opponent each round.

As it was stated before baseball needs to end on early october.

November is for snowballs not baseballs.

Knowing where the LDS/LCS/WS will be played there will be a 0% chance of snow

I think what might have condensed these odds head to head were an even or slightly better divisional strength in which the Indians captured a better record, combined with both teams dating rather streak and lots of injuries and underachieving, especially throughout the Yankees lineup and pitching staff.

Who remembers the NBA "Mini Series"?

Best of 3 opening playoff series.

Went away when Showtime LA Lakers eliminated by Ralph Sampson buzzer beater. Houston eliminated Lakers at the LA Forum.

I remember that. Sampson's shot was a prayer and then Michael Cooper's reaction after was amazing.

Went away when the TV money for the NBA went from pennies to F.U. money
