Third time a charm?

The guy is worth almost $2b, so this for him is a drop in the bucket. Plus I'm sure he wanted to get this off his plate, so at a bargain he has credibility to maintain given the past.

Its a tough one, but I do like that he and his investors were willing to spend money and get it on the cheap. I think it built a little momentum last year and the players wanted to continue. Maybe having a former player himself and he's got the personality and popularity to recruit other former NFL guys to be part and this could be ok, probably better than having the doubts caused by having a wrestling guy at the top. Still will have to have some staying power through a big investment and getting any kind of connection to NFL would be huge. Plus now players have seen that a handful of guys got NFL contracts, that will help keep interest in playing even if they probably have to pay players and coaches even less than they did before.

What did he buy there is no league? They're going to a bubble concept, nonetheless, wait until the operating costs mount. McMahon will buy it back for half.

That’s about $14.5 million more than it’s worth.

It will never work unless it is some kind of partnership (like a minor league or something) with the NFL which is never gonna happen.
Why wont it happen? That is absolutely what should happen, for the benefit of both leagues. It was already happening last year in an informal sort of way. Just formalize it. Let the XFL operate as a farm system/experimental lab for the NFL.

Imagine if they could have been on during the full lockdown. How high would the ratings have been? I think they know the core idea of a lower league running outside of NFL season can work, just got to get the execution down right. For now, they know which markets may support it (once out of a bubble) and what apects were not good enough, like most QB play and pass protection. Just have to get better on some parts of it and this will be respectable football that people will watch. Most importantly, everyone recognizes its time to embrace betting and this can be further optimized for the betting experience. Then down the road as every year some players get NFL looks, they can work on some integration with the NFL.

I read they spent $120M to either a marketing company or have that much set aside for marketing.

Looks like they are going to give this a go.

The thing they better hope doesn't happen is for college football to move to the spring which would take away some of their shine

I can’t see many NFL prospects playing in the college spring version, they sit out bowl games now.

They can't play until they are drafted or go through a draft and aren't picked. All these leagues except the USFL clearly didn't want to get into a bidding war for players. My guess is the eventual deals they could make is anyone drafted after a certain round, say 4th or later, and those undrafted but on NFL rosters will be eligible to play in XFL with team permission. Will also allow for CFL players and any other league to join and see if they can catch onto an NFL team and then some guys who got released from the NFL and get signed to special contracts like the QBs did. The guys who don't get an invite to NFL camps would be free to go to the CFL or any other leagues until the next season. I could also see this being an opportunity to set up an XFL Europe or Latin America, have them play a short season during the NFL season where they can play on Saturdays since college football isn't that widely shown outside the US.

If this happened last year Joe Burrow would be an undrafted free agent in someones camp for a quick look see, see ya, bye, without a spring League to show his stuff. He'd love an XFL shot.
