This baseball "code" is just stupid

How many days in a row is the debate over a meaningless home run going to be a top story on ESPN? The guy hit one out on a 3-0 so that's dishonorable, but a 3-1 pitch would have been fine? Just nonsense there is such a code and that guys will fight over it. Why does the press still ask LaRussa about it daily?

well it was a blowout win.... the other side wants outs to get the game over... the NFL has the same thing with blowout wins in the 4th ...had it for years.

The HR was hit on the 3rd out, the first two guys swung vary hard at the 47mph pitches but didn't get a hit, so if they had hit one out it was just fine, it's all nonsense?

I can understand the "rules" of not stealing bases when you're up 12 runs etc, but hitting is different, baseball is stat crazy and no way a player should be forced to just stand there. there's lots of garbage yards in the NFL and buckets in basketball. I was watching that game as a twins fan and wanted someone to nail one of those softball pitches just to see how far it went.

If you want to get the game over, why is that side putting a position player on the mound? I get using the position player not to waste the bullpen, but they can't sit and cry if they get lit up and tire ironed. I don't believe the Twins said a word. It's all on La Russa. Even his own player, Lance Lynn, called him out.

Giolito also subtly threw Larussa under the bus yesterday. Doesn’t sound like the team is happy with his hiring and I can’t blame them-he’s a crusty old bastard and the game has passed him by

There would've been a time and place for them to bring La Russa back. Maybe vintage 2005 La Russa. He's fluent in Spanish and there's a lot of Cuban players on the team. I'm sure that was a factor but at his age, the game appears to have passed him by. Not knowing the rules in extra innings is ridulous, yet knowing unwritten rules? And then doubling down on his criticism of Mercedes, I guess he hasn't learned his lesson.

agree ... They are saving the pen to beat them if they played the next day.. i think they played the following day.. where do you draw the line on the code? who knows. I like the code to speed it up. Any team is not coming back late all things being equal. The NFL has been doing it for decades so does the NBA.

Wonder what LaRussa's reaction was to Moneyball. Can just imagine him wanting to throw shit at the screen.

l thought the main reason LaRussa was pissed off was because the player ignored his take sign. He wanted to make sure everybody knew he was not at fault.

There was a day that if you missed a sign you were on the bench after the inning was over. Like not running hard to first base.

Need to change the unwritten rule book. Bunting to break up a no hitter stays in the book. Not swinging 3-0 in a blowout should be thrown out.

I don't think there was a sign. Heck, the guy is a 28-YO career minor-leager.

the hockey code is even more dumb, ''hey man, you injured our captain, obviously didn't mean to but we gotta fight.. "

LaRussa said there was a sign. Why would the guy even look down for a sign in that situation.

The way it looks to me is the Sox players are just putting up with LaRussa like you do with an out of touch old relative. You just do your thing and don't let the old guy ridiculous rants bother you. At the same time not disrespecting him to his face.

They are on social media giving each other props and support at the same time the old man is not knowing what the hell he is talking about to reporters.
