The UFC's Fight Night series contiues this weekend live from Tampa. The card will air on the ESPN + app, check local listings for start times.
The main event features former 115 pound "queenpin" Joanna Jedrzejczyk as she faces Michelle Waterson. There are rumors all over the internet that Jedrzejczyk is having trouble with the weight cut and that she is not going to make weight. She moved up to flyweight where she lost to champion Valentina Shevchenko. This is her return to the strawweight division so the weight cut may very well be an issue. It is interesting to note however that the UFC has not had a fighter come out and say "I am not going to make weight" nearly a week before the fight before, so it makes this a weird one.
The weigh-ins are scheduled for Friday and they are "must watch" at this point. Will double J struggle making the weight? Was the fight week rhetoric part of package of head games? Waterson is on record stating that she won't fight if her opponent is over the weight class limit so the match may not even happen. I wouldn't bet this fight until after Ive seen the weigh ins for myself. Joanna is a big favorite as of now but if the weight issues are real, that line should have Waterson fans excited.
The co-feature sees veteran Cub Swanson facing fast rising ground specialist Kron Gracie at featherweight. Kron is the son of legendary Rickson Gracie so he brings back a lot of the mystique and legend around the Gracie name. He is 5-0 overall and this will be just his second UFC fight, so a co-feature bout against a a guy with 17 UFC appearances alone tells us that Gracie is looking to move up the ladder quickly. Swanson was once a contender/gatekeeper in this weight class, but with four losses in a row heading into this fight, he is likely facing a release with another loss. Gracie's other fights have come in Japan where he faced several veterans such as Hideo Tokoro and Tatsuya Kawajiri. That is enough to see Gracie favored heading into this one.
