NYY/Baltimore over 6 even:
The first place Yankees (30-17) have taken the first 2 of this 4 game series in Baltimore (15-33) outscoring the O’s 21-11 in the process. That includes last night’s 11-4 carnage which featured 2 HR’s from Clint Frazier along with 5 RBI and Gary Sanchez’s 14th round tripper, a 3 run shot in the first inning. Sanchez also scored 2 runs and drove in 4, while DJ Lemahieu went 3 for 4 also scoring 2 runs. Domingo German scattered one earned run on 5 hits in 5 IP to notch his major league leading 9th win against just one loss, while David Hale finished up allowing a couple of runs on 3 hits in 4 innings. David Hess fell to 1-6 allowing 9 runs on 8 hits in 5 IP walking 4 and striking out 5 and watching his ERA swell to 6.75. Stevie Wilkerson belted his 5th HR of the season for Baltimore, who has now lost 4 straight and 7 of their last 8.

The Birds start Dan Straily (1-3 8.51) whose pitching woes continue to mount, especially over his last 3 appearances. The 30 year old 8 year right hander has given up 15 ER over his last 12 IP (11.25) and has not won in almost a month and a half. He faces a Yankees lineup hitting just .255 overall but averaging nearly 5.5 runs per contest along with 73 HR. Sanchez (.263 14 30) has found the stroke from 2017 leading the Bronx Bombers in HR, second in RBI, and hitting safely in 7 of his last 8 (.308) including 2 HR and 8 RBI in his last 2 games. Luke Voit (.260 11 34) has missed just one game all season, is tops on the club in RBI and has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 (.458). With all of the Yankees injuries though slowly but surely getting healthy, Gio Urshela (.336 2 17) heads the Yankees in batting including a .368 clip over his last 5 while showing some flash at the hot corner. Gleyber Torres (.299 10 24) has also been extremely versatile both at the plate and at second base, while currently on a 10 game hitting streak (.405). Frazier (.268 8 23) has 2 multiple HR games against Baltimore already, and yesterday snapped a recent 1 for 19 slump (.052). Even more encouraging news for NY, Giancarlo Stanton could join the team sometime this week after suffering a shoulder injury that has seen him miss the bulk of the 2019 campaign thus far.

The pinstripers counter with CC Sabathia (2-1 2.97) who comes in looking stellar over his last few outings. In this, his farewell season he gives the Yanks 5 to 6 solid innings and over his last 3 starts has gone 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA despite 9 walks while striking out 11. He faces an Orioles lineup going through the motions offensively batting just .236 collectively averaging just 3.9 runs overall and only 56 HR. Trey Mancini (.309 10 23) has certainly stepped up his game especially with the departure of Adam Jones to Arizona over the offseason, leading the birds in batting. Dwight Smith (.271 8 28) has also been a pleasant surprise, tops on the O’s in RBI. Baltimore does have some balance in the lineup, though the numbers are nowhere near staggering. Jonathan Villar (.250 5 19) got off to a promising start, but has been troubled as of late going just 2 for his last 20 (.100). Hanser Alberto (.297 3 12) is 10 for his last 15 however (.600) during his current 4 game hitting streak. Rio Ruiz (.247 4 14) has also struggled as of late going just 4 for 22 over his last 6 games (.182).

We get another bargain of a price this evening at Camden Yards, one of the league;s most hitter friendly parks especially as the weather begins to heat up. Temps are in the 70’s this evening with light winds but there is a chance for rain this evening, so any delays could slow down either starter. Straily has not been able to find a rhythm this season and the Yankees have been red hot at the plate as of late. CC continues to be efficient despite put on a minimal pitch count given his age so it will be interesting to see if Baltimore can spark up some offense if they hope to keep up chances of splitting this series. Best of luck however you play!
