Which 1960's Pitchers Could Get Batters Out Today?

There are more than you think...At least two from each team from both leagues....

You're probably right...it's interesting that football players from the 60 can't compete now, nor could basketball players. But baseball is
a different story.

They would all be average to above avg middle relievers or 4-5th starters at best.

Nolan isn't really from 60's but he'd be a good 2nd or 3rd starter, maybe.

games, talent pools, specialization training from a young age, nutrition, pharma, conditioning evolve very fast. like less than a decade and you are gone and forgotten.,

Mark McGwire would be a AAAA type player in today's game or at best, he'd be Chris Davis

Those guys were pitchers. Today its just throw as hard as you can and try not to put it in a spot where the batter can hit the ball with the desired launch angle to get it out of the park.

Bob Gibson would win a Cy Young today. He would use the talent he had and augment it with all the latest and greatest knowledge and technology to make himself that much better.

Steve Carlton best lefty in that era, though his best years were the 70's.
Won 27 games for a Philly team that won 59 games in 1972.
Devastating slider.

It's funny that say that. My daughter was watching a replay of the last game of the 1969 World Series and said that, unlike other sports, baseball looked similar to today's game. I said that the strategy was different but the game looked the same. Jacob deGrom has won the last two Cy Young trophies, but nobody in New York would say that Tom Seaver didn't belong on the same mound.

Bulls, Lakers and Celtics would beat today’s Lakers in rules and how the game was called by refs in 70s, 80s, 90s.

Few Football players from the 80's could compete in todays NFL. Basically QB's and special teams could, certainly no linemen.

Koufax
Gibson
Marichal

And they could pitch today

imagine if these 3 were pitching now. how much money they would make.

1968 gibson season era 1.12 with 28 complete games.
1969 gibson season era 2.18 with 28 complete games

started in 9 world series games. went 7-2, era 1.89, 8 complete games, 2 time ws mvp.....
if he pitched today and only had to go 6 or 7 innings...lol
he would be the #1 starter on any team today and dominate and intimidate....

born and raised in st louis so maybe i'm biased....

Crazy dominant.

1968 Word Series, Mickey Lolich with 3 complete game wins, Gibson also 3 CG and his ERA should hae been 0.33 if Curt Flood wouldn't have been staring at some babe on a routine fly ball.

No physical contact in baseball like football or basketball.

The players in football and basketball have grown bigger and stronger and faster through the years, so players lacking athleticism are unable to keep up.

Baseball is a different game where size and speed can be offset by other skills.

The pitcher-batter matchup in baseball makes the sport more of an individual game than a team sport.
