5 years with his first team and rookie contract was up. Second team has a lunatic owner who gets rid of coaches and players when the results aren’t immediate. He went to the Rams after Stafford got hurt and the Rams needed immediate help. One year deal w Tampa and he’s already got a playoff win.
The reality is Cleveland would be far better off with him than an oft injured, mediocre overpaid Watson.

The Buccaneers are in a comfortable cap situation with around $50 million available in 2024. With Mayfield and the team wanting to stay together, there's mutual motivation to get a pleasing deal done.
As the top of the QB market has shot well above $50 million per season, the Bucs would have a relative bargain even when not getting the absolute steal Mayfield was in 2022.
They can feel that some of Mayfield's new deal is a good-faith reward in arrears. In that sense, a bump to $30 million is not only reasonable, but it also keeps the Bucs in the middle of the pack for what they're paying their QB. Five years at $150 million with around $60 million guaranteed would be fair, even as a floor.

He certainly is not an exception to the 5-year rule of thumb.

I read Baker's camp is looking at 3 years 100 million.
it was 4 years not 5 (2018 to 2021) and they only made the playoffs once with him as signal caller.
he was the scapegoat, not the D nor the ST's which stunk.
no surprise he is doing well. the kid has been a winner since HS.

Probably….doesn’t mean he is worth it….
I thought Baker got a bad rap in Cleveland. Dude played a full season with a severely damaged shoulder (and was really never healthy most of his time there) and didn’t once make any excuses.
I don't see it.
I think he plays big and they wind handily by DD.
