Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

Superiorbook is asking for a 15x rollover on all "inherited" BetEmpire accounts, but they're the same company ... Jim Mason is "Operations Director" at both places ... etc.

That's like CRIS folding, and DSI taking over the accounts and putting a 15x rollover on these accounts.

You can't put a 15x rollover on accounts taken over from a sister book within the same company .. that's called a scam / stiff job, not a bailout.

That is theft, no two ways about it.

The companies were already sister sportsbooks. To now say one is taking over the other, but, all users of the former must now roll over balances 15 times, that is outright theft.

I don't get how you can have trouble understanding this:

As part of this program, SuperiorBook.com will honor all Empire Sportsbook balances, applying a rollover requirement of 15 times before any withdrawal can be made.

they specifically state, that any/all Empire players will be forced to roll their balances over 15 times, before making any withdrawal.

You do understand that, right? I don't get why you keep acting as though this confuses you. Unless of course i have misread you from the start.

While I can't use the word "joke", there are some questionable advertisers. But with the industry as it is now and the bills still being the same, then income from somewhat questionable books is sometimes a needed for capital and overhead.
My personal opinion is that Futurebet and Jazzette books are not the books to play with. I'm stickin with the Greek's and BetJams of the world, even avoiding Bodog(who at this time wouldn't send a enemies money to).

Re: Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

Empire and Superior were owned by two seperate groups. Mason working as the GM does not mean they were both one in the same.

I know for a fact they are not the same group and everyone with money at Empire should be thankful they are getting offered anything from Superior. Especially in this day and age.

Others like SBR are clueless when they call this a con or stiff job by Mason or Superior. It could not be anything further from the truth and both Mason and Superior should be commended to stepping in.

Perhaps they would know this if they had a discussion with Mason directly but since when has SBR been about truth?

Re: Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

Hey guys,

I thought I'd take a couple minutes to address some of the issues raised here. Each of the posters I address are well respected posters who I believe if presented with the facts will form their own unbiased opinions and not be dragged into a lynchmob mentality. I will be occupied for most of the rest of today, but will respond to reasonable questions/concerns tomorrow if need be.

It seems that the main sticking point is whether or not Superior and Empire were seperately owned companies. They were at no time owned by the same owner/s.

*Empire never had Poker, Superior had/does have poker since 2003 using two seperate networks.
*LVFH can confirm that the Superior liscenced their poker software in 2003 while Empire was not even on-line yet and was just being founded.
*Empire was registered by Frederick Gray in the U.K.
*Superior was registered by Juan Waterhouse in Curacao.
*Superior advertises here at EOG as a Platinum sponsor, Empire never advertised here. Why, if the companies were one in the same wouldn't they both become lower level sponsors, rather than one being a Platinum sponsor and the other not even advertise?
* Superior ran radio ads for their .net site all through football season. Empire did not do radio and has never had a .net site.

The second issue seems to be the rollover involved. While I understand no one is going to applaud a rollover, no good businessman would take on another companies debt just to be nice. If Empire had struck a deal with any other sportsbook for a bailout there would have been a rollover involved as well.

Now to address some specific issues raised by the posters.....
Halifax:
* It's never been a secret that I managed both books. There has never been any atempt to mask this fact.
* I disagree on your betCRIS/DSI example. As close as I am to those guys, I can't imagine one of those two absorbing all player balances from the other without some form of a rollover. They are too good of businessmen to give away that type of money. That's just my opinion of a hypothetical situation however and we may have to agree to disagree.

Sean1:
* As Superior was new to Sportsbook we did indeed use Empire's Gateway checking account for nearly 90 days and we also used Empire's NETeller account (Though we've had our own active account since we started in poker in 2003) as it was already in place. It was just two less things for the technical team to tackle.

Dirty:
* As Juan posted on 9/18/06 "SuperiorBook.com uses the same software (SportsPulse) and employs the same support system as BetEmpire.com, but it is a different group." These comments show an atempt to address this question of seperate ownership going back to the 18th day of Superiorbook's existence when there was absolutely no reason to say so if it wasn't true.

JC:
* The 'About us' pages are similar, but not identical. This too was never intended to be hidden or secretive. When Superiorbook was creating their 'about us' page, they simply took the software's template and modified it. This is not an uncommon practice in the gaming industry. There are 100's of examples of companies using templates provided by software companies, with RTG casinos being a prime example.

Inside Guy:
* While inside guy has his facts striaght as usual, I would like to point out that we do have an open line of communication with SBR and I spoke with Bill via Email recently explaining many of the same things I am posting here now.

Well if Superior acquired Empire because they bought it or because Empire defaulted on their debt to Superior, it would seem that Superior owes full balances without rollover.

It would be different if Superior was a third party book coming to the rescue with a "relief" plan as a marketing tool.

Were whatever assets Empire had left willfully turned over to Superior? It seems so. I am sure they got the entire database, not just the funded names.

If they were a bank, and you took over all of their assets including their accounts, you couldn't force the customers to leave their money in longer, or force them to invest in products they have no interest in before you paid them their money on demand.

Re: Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

Hey folks;

It's been a while since I last posted, but I figured this time is a as good as it can be to voice my opinion on this issue; which, I must admit, is biased as I am currently affiliated with Superior Gaming.

I think the whole issue can spin out of control here and it would be good to try and establish reasonable parameters of discussion where transparency will be the norm. Having said that and before I post any further, let's try and attack the arguments and not the poster. Otherwise, this will become as attractive as a food fight and in the end no real benefit for the players involved will be attained.

I was recently contracted by Superior Gaming as part of a new team that aims to take the brand to new heights and fill the void left by various large strictly RECREATIONAL companies that exited the US market. I was presented with a very ambitious offer by the executive team behind the Superior Gaming brand and having been involved in this industry for a long time, I must admit the project seems to be VERY feasible and very well funded.

The initial phase of the brand consolidation plan included the absorption of as many recreational players as possible at the absolutely most efficient cost. Following those directives, a clientele acquisition plan was designed. As in any other industry, the first acquisition should always be the most feasible one and given the circumstances with the former owner of BetEmpire.com, Superior Gaming executives decided to absorb the clientele of BetEmpire.com... based SOLELY on a business decision.

Whether you guys believe this fact or not -while potentially pernicious for Superior's reputation- is absolutely trivial. Trivial because there is such a thing as documentation to support this fact... and while it's not common practice to disclose this information in a public forum for obvious reasons, the reporting agencies, affiliate agencies and sponsorship portals are all welcome to visit the Superior Gaming premises and check this documentation by themselves. The rest is just speculation and speculation is in no way a real approach to reality.

Now, regarding the players that will be bailed out... consider the following facts:
? Not a single player has filed a complaint in this regard.
? While it was operational, BetEmpire.com never stiffed a player or stalled a payment. To this date, every single player has been paid upon request and on a timely manner... timelier, in various occasions, than many larger companies.
? After extensive research was conducted, this bail-out plan was specifically designed to satisfy the clientele of BetEmpire.com. If any of you guys was a player at BetEmpire.com and is currently not in conformity with the plan, there are other venues to discuss an alternative. As of today, all players have been THANKFUL for the opportunity to remain playing using the same great interface they have grown accustomed to.
In short, if you're a BetEmpire.com player you're being given an optimum opportunity to not having to write off your balance at BetEmpire.com as a loss.

As for some of the arguments posed in here ?like similar ?about us? pages and Jimmy Mason being the operational director for both brands- is in no way an indication that both companies were once one and the same. Such an occurrence is rather common among ?white label? companies or companies that share the same infrastructure but not the same funding venues.

JC:

If they were a bank, and you took over all of their assets including their accounts, you couldn't force the customers to leave their money in longer, or force them to invest in products they have no interest in before you paid them their money on demand.

This, however, is NOT a bank. In the very same way that WSEX was an online sportsbook and not a derivative market exchange.

Now, consider for a second, the possibility that you are indeed wrong and the BetEmpire.com owner and Superior Gaming owner are 2 different people? in that case, what moral obligation does Superior have to absorb a failed company?s liabilities? As exposed above, there is documentation available to selected parties to prove this fact.

Re: Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

Bottom line is Empire went broke while under the same management as Superior.

Under the argument something is better than nothing, the players are expected to accept this deal.

It didn't have to be a bank in my example, it would have been any company where customer assets are held in trust for the customer.

What did Superior get from Empire? How much debt did Superior forgive? What were the total balances of the Empire customers?

At the end of the day it seems rather petty. Empire's aggregate customer balances couldn't have been that big and all of this bad press is probably not worth the assets they are acquiring.

Re: Why no word on the BetEmpire stiff job and Superiorbook "bailout" ?

From TOW:

BetEmpire: Jim Mason talks about the sportsbook takeover
<HR style="COLOR: #fff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Betempire customers and watchdog operators were caught by surprise on Friday when Superiorbook, formerly a white label of Empire sportsbook, announced the take over of BetEmpire.

"SuperiorBook.com (http://www.superiorbook.com) has announced this week that it is in the process of absorbing all clients of Empire Sportsbook (BetEmpire.com)" a press release issued on Friday stated.

"Empire Sportsbook is forced to close down operations. In an attempt to increase clientele and help online sportsbook players at the same time, the provisions of this merger call for SuperiorBook.com to offer all BetEmpire.com players a bailout program, applying a rollover requirement of 15 times before any withdrawal can be made."

BetEmpire former operations manager Jim Mason spoke exclusively with TheOnlinewire.com on Friday, shedding light on the unexpected twist of events.

"Empire's owner had been having financial problems for close to a year and Empire was being supported by Superior which is why no payments have been missed and why there were few clues." Mason revealed. "Superior laid down a date for the owner of Empire and said "If you can not at least support yourself by this date (Not mentioning the small fortune in back money he owed to Superior) we no longer will".

"That date came and the owner was forced to abandon Empire. In a business decision, Superior decided to offer a bail out program to increase its sportsbook customer base."

BetEmpire and Superiorbook where believed to be one and the same by many, however Mason clarifies the nature of the relationship between the two operations. "Superior and Empire worked under the same roof, shared the same staff and used the same software, but had separate ownership as is common in the industry." He said.

Jim Mason went on highlighting the short and long term benefits for Empire customers. "Short term benefits for former Empire customers will include the same familiar software interface, and they will now have access to poker, casino and expanded 24/7 Client Services." He said. "Long term benefits include a stronger, more reliable infrastructure and the security of a gaming license from the jurisdiction of Curacao."

The imposition of a 15-time rollover on existing balances to migrating BetEmpire customers caused concern and scattered protests among the sportsbook's clients. "I have yet to hear the protests, but I would simply explain that bailouts include rollovers regardless of who takes over the failing company." Jim Mason said, addressing the issue.

Mason confirmed he will maintain the role of operations manager with Superiorbook. "I served as Operations Director for both Empire and Superior and have been asked to stay on as Operations Director for Superior, which I will." he said.

BetEmpire customers who wish to confirm their data with former management may contact Frederick Gray, one of the founders of Empire who is tying up loose ends and can be reached at management@betempire.com .

Our attempts to reach BetEmpire estranged owner led us to a shocking find. Apparently the man could have never met his deadline as he had been arrested on unrelated charges while traveling in Europe at the end of April. According to the records the arrest warrant was issued by the FBI and executed by the Italian police.

"Birds of a feather flock together"

I was introduced to Jimmy through Willy Loman less than a year ago. I got a chance to sit down and chat with Jimmy as well. From everyone I know in Costa Rica, I hear the same thing about Jimmy as I do about people like Willy Loman, Dave Mahoney, The Cigar Man, etc.

Bottom Line:

"JIMMY CAN BE TRUSTED"

P.S.

Jimmy and I spoke on the phone yesterday for quite some time..

And more importantly, I believe him..
