Gas Prices $4 a Gallon This Summer?

I was just watching Fox News and there is some speculation that gas could reach $4 a gallon this summer in some states.

Its $2.89 here in Cali now and $2.49 in Atlanta.

Also did you know that Exxon-Mobile makes an after tax proffit of 9 cents per gallon .... ubreal

It's up to 2.76 here in Jersey. Highest its been in a while. Just paid $54 to fill up my Explorer. I think its time for me to get rid of it and start driving a small manual transmission car.

Already on the immediate horizon here in Costa Rica, like next week, an increase of 51 Colones per liter up to 524. As there are 505 Colones to the dollar and 3.8 liters per gallon, we will reach the majic $4 mark.

What sucks is that about one third of the price is a tax earmarked to fix the roads but somehow it goes missing before many roads get fixed!

I look forward to 5$ a gallon... I think thats what it will take for this country to wake up and realize what a clusterfuck this administration is

the riots will do us good.

Does anyone remember when Clinton tapped into the reserves and how it completely sparked the economy ? we were paying 97 cents for gas... that wont happen with bush or any republican in for that matter... it hurts his oil buddies way too much

Hell! While I was filling gas in my truck, a lady at the gas station was changing the prices at the sign. I felt like I saved 4 cents a gallon today. :+sick-9+ This shit is getting ridiculous.

Yeah I remember that

I was throwing out some old tax paper work from 1996 last year and i noticed I was paying around 89 cents a gallon. We will NEVER see that again.

it's nuts, however:

T Boone Pickens donated 36 and then 116 million (I think that's right) to Oklahoma State and the University put it in his Oil and Gas fund and he waived the management fees. It made 30 million in the first 60 days.

So I kinda figure about 15 cents a gallon as a donation to the stadium fund of my alma mater :).

Honestly though, it's NUTS that our government allows us to be gouged like this. BIG BIG BIG business at it's best.

It is not gouging....it is simple supply and demand. Oil consumption is up world wide...you add China and 30 Billion people and expect Oil and Gas not to go up......Crazy....Once they were added to the WTO and OPEC and Oil producing countries started sending thier stuff there....Prices of Oil has very little to do with the US other than the Tree Huggers will not let us drill in ANWR and open new Refineries. There has not been a new Refinery Built in this country in almost 35 years. No Matter How much Oil we can get our hands on we can't refine it any quicker and get it out to the People of the United States without More refineries....Another thing that slows it down is there are over 100 grades of Gasoline. Some for Big cities, Farms, rural, etc.... and every time they have to switch Blends it slows the process down and costs Money.

People Bitch about the Oil companies making Millions..Sure Profits are more than ever....But damn I wonder why....There is More Crude being sold in the world than Ever before..People only see how much money was made...but they fail to see the Profit margins' haven't changed a bit

some simple economics.....If I sell 100 items for a dollar and have a 10 Percent profit margin this year I will Make 10 Bucks. Next year if I sell 200 of the same item for a Dollar and I have a Profit margin of 10%....Guess what.....I made 20 Bucks.....to socialists...that means I gouged the public and I should not be able to make more than the 10 bucks.....But in our System of Free Enterprise my Profits are determined by how many Items I sell. Profit margins didn't Change. Gas companies have not changed thier Progit margins at all if you look at thier books....They are just selling more of the Product.

It's not just about supply and demand with oil. Right now these Iran fears are pushing the price up. If we were to announce that we were going to war with Iran today, Oil would hit 100 bucks a barrel instantly.

What the heck can you do about it? Just lay back and enjoy. The oil tycoons are very happy. I am glad for them. Not!

Toronto area is up to 1.09 a litre, which translates to about 4.25CAD, which equals 3.75USD a gallon, i go across the border once a week for work in buffalo and fill up with your cheap prices, 2.79 a gallon what a bargain!!

it IS price gouging.

Oil companies are setting record profits EVERY quarter.

Coincidence?

I don't think so.

Look at the top 20 most profitable businesses in the world for the last two years and tell me Oil and Gas is NOT number one. Tell me that less than half of the top 20 are not Oil and Gas companies? I don't think you can even do that.

Business is business, but I believe there is some liability to society there.

Let me ask you this, during 9/11 when the local convenience stores raised gas prices up why were the police driving around and forcing all of them to lower prices and called it price gouging, but when the Oil and Gas companies do it, it's supply and demand.

Has demand DOUBLED in the last year? Has the supply been cut in half?

During Hurricane Katrina, did demand go up? Did supply go down?

NO. Fear and worry went up, driving the price up, but demand did not suddenly increase and offshore rigs were down for a short time but that did not have an impact on supply.

Exxon Mobile made a profit nearly TWICE the second largest company in the world last year. AND THAT WAS LAST YEAR.

TWICE.

Tell me it's not price gouging....it is.

Because we have no choice. Riding your bike to work is simply not feasable for most Americans. We have to drive.

And what about the billions of dollars in R&D they spend a year on alternative resources....yeah right. More like buying up any solid alternatives and burying them deeper than the holes they freaking drill for oil...

I have no problem with paying a higher price at the pump, and I'm not saying that Oil and Gas companies should not make a big profit or be able to increase their prices, but this is nuts.

The worst part is that it's not getting any better. They know how much they can charge and exactly how to condition us so that it is socially acceptable to raise prices and when...

When prices went back down, I stated that the price to heat your homes would go up and they'd get it from you that way. For the most part, it was a mild winter. Now, they're raising gas prices again. Imagine that.

But hey, as I said, my alma mater is going to have the best facilities in the nation in three years. They're spending about 500 million on top of the stadium fund. Hell Tennis is getting a 30 million dollar facility. Right now, they barely even have bleachers on their couple of outdoor courts.

If you have the million it takes to invest in BP Capitol, I'd get on it. :smokesmal

Exactly shortbus....Bottom line is if you buy this gas at 2 bucks a gallon and you charge say 2.25 for it...and when itis time to replenish your supply it will cost you 2.50 Cents.....you will be out of business.....you have to charge enough to make your profit and replenish you supply.

Simple concept of Economin Freedom.....Like here in Gville we have stations charging 2.89....and some charging 2.65 a gallon....as a consumer I simply choose not to stop at the ones charging 2.89 a gallon for it. That is how you contol the prices...If the expensive stores don't get business they will have to come down..

If you think Government Regulation is the answer ask Jimmy Carter what it did for this country and his Socialist Legacy....:+clueless

Currently we are paying $3.52 per galon in Costa Rica and in a next few weeks it will easily be over $4.50. ...ts not only expensive but also octane quality is very poor...

you're missing the point. It's not the stores selling the gas that are the problem.

Most convenience stores make about 5 cents per gallon on gas. They make their money on the products people buy when the buy gas.

BUT REALLY?........... WHAT THE FUCK CAN WE DO? MY OLD LADY GOTTA GOTO WORK AND I CANT TELL MY KIDS THAT THEY GOTTA WALK 2 MILES TO BASEBALL PRACTICE!!:+clueless

TAKE IT.

That's all you CAN do.

That's why they're putting it to you. Your butthole is there, you're bent over, they're ramming it in.

You can't stand up on your own, and you can't get enough people to help you up, so you TAKE IT.
