That idea of turning empty downtown office buildings into apartments sounds good except who's going to live there and where will they work? You're not going to have retired people moving downtown, nor those stay at home workers, it's going to be welfare people, immigrants, and other bums, packing thousands and thousands of unemployed people into converted offices will not make things better, it'll make things worse.
Then you might say, well they can commute to the jobs in the suburbs, which is really dumb because then they shouldn't be living downtown.
