Reds new pitching coach Derek Johnson was Gray's pitching coach in college, maybe he can help turn around what was once a promising career, for whatever reason things haven't worked out for him in NY, maybe a change of scenery will help get him back to the pitcher he was in Oakland.

Sonny Gray has been outstanding this year, 2.80 ERA 1.088 WHIP, for whatever reason he's pitched like he did in Oakland,. If he pitched for a better team he would even get some CY consideration. He's on a 4 year 38M contract, which right now is a bargain for the Reds

It’s just different in NY, starting with the constant media attention. It chewed up Ed Whitson back in the day.
