Eye on the Markets: Coronavirus Stocks/Investments thread

Alphabet, even at $1400 may have more room to run. Have to wonder if they spin out You Tube on its own, or Waymo, the autonomous ride share service they own. Some feel that is going to be a disruptive technology. I've heard one estimate pegs Waymo's potential market cap at $100 billion on its own.

Do you own any Amazon Topper?

Despite my reservations towards Bezos I applied the “can’t beat em/join em” route

no ..too late for me I did notice Bezos is buying 200 more planes. That would mean bad luck for UPS & Fed EX. .for myself I am looking at buying something in defense... The USA is looking into dropping 2 aircraft carriers and possibly replacing them with many smaller boats but the secretary of defense has not made a decision yet. Trump is also moving towards more missiles near china . Watch when any president breaks treaties with countries like what trump did with the russia missile treaty.. That means policy moves to hopefully bringing in china with a 3 way missile treaty ..Soon as china says no, defense missiles have to be bought to counter china's advantage in south china sea. The easy tell to see who has an advantage is watch the U.S. generals/admirals on the think tank shows along with budget talks with congress. I remember about 5 years ago Obama said the USA will pivot to ASIA . That was a tell the military will move to the south china sea from the gulf ...soon as obama said it defense stocks moved and china noticed as well cause the global policy was moving against them. Sure enough trump went on the attack as soon as he got in office with a trade deal & banning china products.

Do you have specific defense contractor stocks you’ve gone too in the past?

you have to find out about amazon stock could go down if AWS is under amazon umbrella.. If it is and i think it is what happens if the AWS case with microsoft goes south ? I think it will microsoft is going to get the 6 billion contract for the CIA/govt so amazon drops & splits from AWS ?

I keep hoping for a split on Amazon

I got into the stock years ago anticipating a semi monopoly on the consumer industry. Unfortunately it looks like a pandemic could make that more of a likelihood.

I fear we are about to hit the age of technocracy.

WASHINGTON—Spurred by the coronavirus pandemic, federal policy makers are pushing to spend billions of dollars to close gaps in America’s high-speed internet network. It will go to places like rural ...... many small businesses need it for farms

Who doesn't have high speed internet by 2020? If one doesn't, they likely chose not to have it.

About 94% in the US have high speed internet. Companies do not want to bring hard to reach internet & cell towers to the areas cause of cost. Not enough of potential customers in the area.

The fact it's available doesn't mean people have it. I could get a rather high speed, what I have is barely adequate. there's a lot of people that dont even have computers.

that is the rural area and mountain area... If the infrastructure is not there you cannot get high speed... nothing to do where ( you merlin ) lives.

Yea, but the fact it's available to 94% doesn't mean 94% of housholds have it, it looks like approx 80% of household have broadband.

the article was about trump providing the 6% of the country high speed access if they want it. ( not free as it is with anyone ). another words the companies do not want to put in the trunk
lines for the cable companies to bring it into your farms / mountain areas , trump is paying for the trunk lines.

Big day for all of us DKNG stockholders

Now sitting above 34 a share
That was a good call. Do traders know something we don't know about MLB and the NBA? They must, although MLB can't sit on their hands much longer. They HAVE to be up and running with a regular season by 4th of July or it will be too late. They need about 3 weeks of spring training to get the pitchers ready. The clock is ticking, Rob Manfred.

I'm with you. I think this goes way beyond Mafred as I see it more of a hardline stance by the MLB players union afraid of giving up concessions that spiral.

Churchill Downs setting up for a likely good short. CHDN up over 150% from its March lows and the price is getting very frothy. They may have to run both the Oaks and Derby to no audience, or at best, severely limited audiences. Their casinos will be hurting the rest of 2020. One of their tracks, Arlington, still doesn't know if they will have a meet, and they've already missed a prime month. The runup from $53 to $136 looks way overdone.

I don't want any part of JPM or BofA or Goldman. If one wants a financial, buy Master Card or Square, the one company that Dorsey does a good job running.
