Las Vegas mayor won't give businesses social distancing guidelines for reopening: 'They better figure it out. That's their job'

It did say how it went - not very good
It didn't say any of that, it said most didn't open, there are a lot of new rules and the owners who did open are trying to figure out how to work things. last week i saw a report with a hair salon owner saying, I'm not opening till it's safe - fine, good for him, why dont they go talk to the other owners that are opening, see what they say.

Fair point, Kane. I've already had the virus, so that probably explains a lot of my laissez-faire attitude about it.

FW is correct though. The social/communal aspect of dining out or drinking at a bar is just as important as the food and drink itself. When 3/4 of your server/bartender's face is covered, it takes a lot out of that experience. Combine that with the fact that no restaurant or bar limited to 50% capacity is going to be anywhere near profitable, and those in the industry who think they're just going to snap back to normal are in for a huge dose of reality when peak summer revenue comes in at 25-30% of normal and no back-of-house staff want to work because they're making more on unemployment.

I would rather have him covering his face than take the chance he's got corona and passes it to me, this isn't going to be forever, but for the foreseeable future, for me this should be the new norm, I think having a bartender or waiter wear a mask is a small price to pay to get back to some type of normal, but to each his own. Also, I'm glad you beat the virus, there are many who haven't/won't, you're one of the fortunate ones

I’m not going to work just as hard for half the pay if im lucky by wearing a mask and have half of the business. On top of that, the real money is made later in the night, and there will be little to none of that. I’ll let someone else work for that money.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Springfield hairstylist served 84 clients over eight days while experiencing symptoms of coronavirus, and now a coworker is sick, health officials said.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department announced in a Facebook post Saturday that 56 other Great Clips clients were potentially exposed by the second stylist.

The announcement came one day after the health department's director, Clay Goddard, said in a news briefing that the first stylist to get sick worked eight days from May 12 to May 20, with only the 18th off. The coworker then worked five shifts from May 16 to 20 while experiencing very mild symptoms.

All of the two stylists' clients wore masks and will be tested. The owner of the Great Clips said in a statement that the salon will be closed until it goes through sanitizing and deep cleaning.

The two cases come just days after city officials announced plans to relax even more distancing requirements and about a week after the health department started seeing an influx of new travel-related infections.

Goddard said health officials still had enough capacity to pinpoint the origin of infections and potential spread, although that could change, the Springfield News-Leader reported.

“We can’t make this a regular habit or our capability as a community will be strained and we will have to re-evaluate what things look like going forward," he said.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services on Saturday reported 194 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 11,752 since the pandemic began. Five new deaths brought that total to 671.

The department also announced it had combined antibody and viral coronavirus testing data, creating an artificially lower percentage of positive tests in the state. The tests were separated in statewide data Saturday, The Kansas City Star reported.

Antibody, or serology, tests show whether a person has ever had COVID-19. A viral, or PCR test, shows whether a person is actively infected with the virus.

In statewide data Friday, Missouri reported about 6.5% of tests conducted in the state were positive. After separating the two types of test, however, the data showed that 8.3% of PCR tests were positive and 4% of antibody tests were positive.

“As we continue to learn more about this virus and new tests emerge, we will continue providing better data with greater clarity and transparency to help Missourians make the best decisions for their health care possible,” said Randall Williams, director of the health department in a news release about the changes

I've heard of 2 or 3 barbers now linked to infections, and I've also heard about several church services that led to infections, But I haven't heard of a single case out of 1.5 million + linked to walmart, a grocery store, a gas station, a hardware store, etc?

it's almost like there's a narrative the media is pushing, and they are deliberately not telling us about all those?

Naah, cant be.

A barber is standing right on top of his client, he's touching his client, they're breathing the same air, people in Walmart and in grocery stores can social distance, no such option for barbers. Also, grocery stores and gas stations are essential businessess, places like that need to be open, a barber or salon isn't essential

You're missing the point, the media is trying to sensationalize a few cases from barbers, etc, when the reality is 1.5 million confirmed cases and another 30 million unconfirmed came from other sources.

It's a false narrative designed only to create fear and drum up support for continued shutdowns.

If someone is out grocery shopping and contracts the virus, it doesn't mean that person made a mistake, people have to eat, it's understandable to get the virus while food shopping, it's something that has to be done. Going to a salon and getting the virus is completely different, you don't need that hair cut bad enough to risk catching it. If someone tells me they caught corona while food shopping, I can understand it, if someone tells me they caught the virus out drinking in a bar or getting their hair done in a salon, that's something I don't get

So Ted likes to infect others? I'm with him on not keeping things closed down for mass hysteria, but its quite obvious if you don't wear a mask and you get close to others, you have a high chance of infecting them if you have the virus, symptoms or not. That's the bullshit part of all this. If Ted wants to take a test before going out like this, by all means. But if Ted refuses to do that just because he wants to swing his dick around showing how proud of it he is, well that's the problem.

This whole sanitizing and cleaning thing I don't get. The transmission was highly unlikely to have occurred because of lack of cleaning. That's the whole problem. These are nonsense conclusions. The workers getting the virus may or may not have anything to do with their working at the same place. No one can know. The stylist could have gotten it stopping off at the drive thru on the way home. The other the same. Or they could have gotten it by sharing an off-floor workspace like a bathroom or changing room.

To draw conclusions that oh no, this shows you can't open anything is bullshit.

None of that is obvious, if it was even partially true cases would have dropped huge in the states that have heavy mask use, and they would be rising huge in the states that dont, that's not what happened.

Mask wearing doesn't help, social distancing doesn't help, shutdowns dont help.

.. AGREE masks do not protect you from flu. ..just prevent you a % from spreading it...

M50 / FM50 AVON respirator prevents you from getting it with a suit

If masks worked so great why were there so many cases in China which had a 100% mask usage?

When did people start wearing masks in China? Sure seems like they didn't do it until the CCP figured out shit needed to be shut down weeks after the pandemic had started spreading. Besides even though the total numbers were elevated at first, China's rates per capita are very low. Easy to say you don't believe the Chinese stats, its a fair point, but its pretty clear once they acknowledged it happening the masks went on, hot spots were effectively shut down and since then cases are rare. The rest of Asia followed the same game plan to good results. If only we stopped fucking around with our so called efforts we might actually be past most of it by now.

An interesting article from zero hedge if you're curious, lockdowns actually costing lives.
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopoliti...ze-winner-slams-lockdowns-product-panic-virus

here's the key part, it's mainly about europe but it still applies.

"In Europe, I don't think that anything actually stopped the virus other than some kind of burnout," he added. "There's a huge number of people who are asymptomatic so I would seriously imagine that by the time lockdown was finally introduced in the UK the virus was already widely spread. They could have just stayed open like Sweden by that stage and nothing would have happened."
