yOu gOtTa rAkE tHe Santa Monica Mountain range and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Who's gonna rake hundreds of thousands of acres?
Who pays for that?
How often?
What about the wildlife and nature? Would it disrupt them?
Has anyone looked at google images of that terrain, and the types of brush, vegetation and trees?

But yeh, you gotta keep it all raked. [eyeroll]

Put animals such as goats on the mountains…that’s what Europeans and Asians do…
Raking is not the solution since most of it isn't leaves or loose material but grass and brush. Controlled burns is what's called for and mostly just near cities and developments.

I read several reports that individuals and homeowners associations wanted to do controlled burns on hillsides right next to them and were constantly turned down. It is a bit of a catch 22 because if you knock down the brush you make landslides more likely when it's wet.

This fire will probably bring the FBI in. There's a lot of corruption in LAFD as outlined in a civilian administrator's lawsuit today...

This fire chief made $650,000 last year, meanwhile firefighters ran out of water in 9 hours.

yea, plus it rained a lot, the point is they always had the water.

they had fires last time when trump was in.........with water...still could not control it. Any fireman would tell you this about fires.. when it gets ahead of the fireman with wind..bye bye

May have to employ work crews from the jails to help with clearing brush.

that could help but depends on how much area. Very dry area it is one reason why people like living there. The north east is very damp
You clear brush to establish fire barriers, not huge empty hillsides far away, I'm not an expert but a couple hundred yards should be enough, it's doable in areas near large developments.

Much of brush clearing is controlled burns also, which is very easy - as long as it doesn't get away from you.

Yes they can, but embers can be handled with people back behind protecting their homes along with fire depts, you cant have a wall of fire roaring up to homes, that's almost impossible, with little or no brush it's not a wall of fire, it's a grass fire.

there were several people that saved their homes with garden hoses(at least 1 died too), a concerted effort WITH the fire dept to soak things before the fire gets there would work.

These people that saved their homes were alone, likely with fire on 3 sides(4 later on) if the whole street is working together you only have to fight it from 1 side.

Right now 1 billion gallons/hr is being dumped from oroville dam(24 billion.day), this will likely continue for 10 days at least, imagine if they could save some of that water for farms in the summer and for LA during fire season?
