I attended a couple of high school womens tournaments in Des Moines back in the early 70s…you ever hear of Denise Long? That’s when they were playing three on three…the offense and defense couldn’t cross mid court…

Of course, she's a legend.

The girls state HS tourney was awesome in the 6 on 6 days.........sellouts.

Been to many tourney games at the BARN

From awesome HS girls BB, to the first pro womens team in the Iowa Cornets, to Clark now...........................the WNBA absolutely needs a franchise in Iowa.

Perhaps with Clark coach/owner.

I know 4-5 people that attended WNBA games for the first time. All had the same comments...shit I didn't know they were that good.

Yes...the days of the white plodders are over.

There is no question that Clark is a great player.

But there are long, lanky, tough, fast defenders in the WNBA who can't wait to get on the court with her. A lot of it has to do with a white girl getting so much attention while talented black girls go unheralded.

It reminds me of the 1992 Olympics when Jordan and Pippen became obsessed about stopping that era's great white hope, Toni Kukoc. They ended up shutting him down completely.

Clark is going to be in for a tough time. Nobody is going to be backing off. The defending will be intense, as will the trash talking.

This scenario happened in the NBA about 12 years ago when Chris Paul put Jimmer Fredette on lockdown.

The media's "Great White Hope" was not going to perform well on Chris Paul's watch.

It's easy to spot focused, aggressive defense in the NBA when a lot of players are on cruise control.

About Caitlin Clark's jump to the WNBA:

There are only 144 players in the league compared to 450 in the NBA.

Imagine how tough the NBA would look with only 12 players on 12 teans.

Contrary to popular belief, the selection committee certainly didn't do Iowa any favors in the draw.

They will probably get Kansas State in the sweet 16 (a team that beat the Hawkeyes in Iowa City), then either LSU or UCLA in the regional final.

That's not an easy road to get to the Final Four.

I think the winner of the Colorado/K-State game is a very live dog to beat Iowa. If Iowa gets past that to the E8, as you said, can't see them getting past UCLA (Who is better than LSU and its homophobic asshole coach and overrated player)

This week, I spent an outrageous amount of money to see you in person with my 5-year-old daughter. You were electric as usual and we jumped and danced and cheered. At one point, my daughter leaned over to me and said, "She hits that shot in the game because she works on it a lot in practice, right daddy!" It was worth every penny. You even graciously stuck around and signed our jersey and literally hundreds of others at the end of the game.

I said, "Thank you! You are amazing!" I wanted to say so much more, but there were hundreds of other little girls with their moms and dads waiting to see you.

Allow me to try one more time now that the throngs of adoring fans are gone....................

Dear Caitlin Clark,

If you read this, I want to say thank you.

Thank you for being an electrifying, transcendent athlete who is actively changing the world of sport. But mostly, thank you for helping me be a better dad.

Clark was recruited in Thailand by the Iowa staff to come play in Iowa City five years ago…

Yes, Clark is very good, but there have been other very good players before. Clark is white, but there have been plenty of high level white players in women's bb. Clark is hetero. Bingo.

My local sportsbook had the total 163 1/2 earlier in the week while everyone else was 162 or 162 1/2. Whenever this book is off the market by 1 1/2 points, they are wrong. Virtually every time. They eventually bumped the total down to 162 1/2 but they are slow and lazy. Not a good way for a sportsbook to go thru life. Under 163 1/2.

At half time the live pinnacle total is 140.5
Clark not very many points in first half. I didn’t see many threes from anyone on Iowa.
Clark May have injured her hands this week signing autographs.

Come on....3.8 seconds left and ref calls UConn for a illegal pick on Edwards!? She threw her elbow out a little....geez, after UConn played their asses off to get back in the game.

This is the Final Four 😐

Sorry, Heim - GOOD CALL!

You admitted as such in your post.

If this happened 5 seconds into the game, and it was called, NO ONE would have said a word about it - except: Good Call. The #1 thing we were taught in class: A foul in the first few seconds is a foul in the last few seconds.

Let's say this doesn't get called and UConn wins the game. How many people saying calling it was a bad call would be LIVID for NOT calling it? ALL OF THEM!

People who say to let them play and "the refs shouldn't decide the game" are wrong and hypocrites. By NOT calling it the ref would have decided the game - in the wrong manner.

I do find it funny/sad that the same people bitching about this call have NEVER officiated a game in their lives. Put on the striped shirt and get a whistle and officiate a few games - then bitch about this call.

As someone who has officiated over 5000 games - IT WAS THE RIGHT CALL!

***And for the record: I had UConn on the ML (Also had them+3.5)***

I don’t like that call either…. She (ref) interjected herself into the game. Screens like that were happening all game long for both teams!

A great game ruined by a ticky tack call, unbelievable that a ref would make that call in that spot and not let the players decide it, that type of screen is done many times during a game without being called, but for whatever reason the ref decided in that instance to call it, I could see if it was clearly a foul, but it was so close that it shouldn't have been called, a great game ruined by a ref's decision

If the ref didn't make the call, no one outside of Iowa would have complained, look at it this way, the call was made and it will always be remembered as highly controversial, had it not been made there might have been a little rumbling, but if Conn hit a game winning shot, very few would have been outraged about the ref not calling a very close illegal screen, calling that foul has led to a lot more controversy than not calling it would have

We can debate this all day, but what on earth was that play call? You have one of the best in woman's CBB...go to the hole hoping to draw a foul. You're only down one. They were trying to free up a shot with little room on the perimeter!? Iowa interior defense sucks.

Heim

EOG Master
more of a moving screen than errant elbow, has to be whistled down...

You're right...but woman seldom set good screens, most are moving into the defender. And I think she gets away with it here, until she extended that elbow, that drew the whistle.

Bigger question...do you want funky colored fake hair in the Final or the girl that's propelled woman's basketball to the stratosphere? 🤔

There was a slow motion video of the play
On Twitter
After watching and rewatching it
In my opinion
The call was correct
And
To not make the call
Would have been incorrect
Not only
will I not make a habit of respectfully disagreeing
With
Murphy’s Best Heim Valuist and Kane at the same time
I Guarantee it will never ever happen again

Ticky Tack? NO WAY!

Not only was she late. Not only were her elbows out............but take a look at her feet! Her left leg was extended way out - past the frame of her body. That, more than anything else, is the most offensive part of the play.

GOOD CALL!

^^^^^^^^^^^^

The biggest "offense" she committed was her left leg out waaaaaaaaay too far. It is outside the frame of her body. That is illegal. Even if she was set, the left leg out as far as it is creates the contact and that - alone - is enough to merit a foul.

In handicapping this game, we should have a default to under as its a championship game. But how is Iowa going to stop 6'7" Cardoso? Their tallest player is 6'3. And I don't see South Carolina stopping Clark. Their PG tweaked her hamstring so I can't to see her stopping Clark. The PG hamstring issue could slow the tempo a bit, but this has the feel of a shootout. Re: the side, one thing to consider; South Carolina does have the added baggage of going into the game with an unbeaten record. All the talk of all time great teams....it doesn't matter if you don't win your finale. Ask 1998-99 Duke or the 2007-2008 Patriots about that. But having said that, what is the "Clark tax"? 2 points? The public will only be on Iowa.

The college woman run way better stuff than the men. Backdoor cuts, screen and rolls, flex offense on one side. The men's game, maybe because of the athletism, is a high ball screen, a shot or one additional pass and it's up.

Can Iowa play any better, getting all the calls yet down 3 at the half.

South Carolina with a monstrous edge in bench points, 37-0.

The Gamecock depth wore down the thin Hawkeyes.

Good game and a good pace for women's college basketball.

Two complaints about Caitlin Clark's game: 1) Please defend and 2) Don't launch wide-open 30-footers when wide-open 25-footers are available.
