If I understand correctly, there's only a 3 hour window for the lines to get stale.

The instructions/rules read in most pertinent part:

"Use the Circa Sports lines posted at 12 p.m. (PT; 12:00:00) Fridays. (All contestants are using the same lines.) Send the Circa numbers posted with your plays and submit by email or text message. Plays can be submitted only once, no changes allowed, and use the proper line. Any contestant failing to designate a Best Bet (BB) will get a zero for the Best Bet record that week.

—Seven plays must be submitted to Matt Youmans no later than 3 p.m. (PT) each Friday."

The plays aren't made public until later on Friday -- I think during the show. But, at bottom, if I understand things correctly, the contestants don't have a big window of time to exploit line moves, unless there's some big breaking news or otherwise a big move within that 3 hour window.

Now I don't know when all that movement was on the Miss St line. The odds pages on Vegasinsider.com used to have many of the Vegas books listed, and when you clicked on a current line, it would take you to a page with every single line movement for that book on that game from the openers on. That is, it identified the date and time of every move in that line, which could wind up being several pages of information. That was a good resource for me, which unfortunately I haven't been able to find anywhere else after VI changed their setup for odds pages.

It's one of my peeves with the internet -- as Heraclitus might say, the only constant is change, and sometimes that change involves a loss of desired functionality.

IIRC, I believe that the classic, the original Stardust Invitational as run by JK, somewhat similarly had the two, H2H contestants pick against market lines an hour or so before showtime, which IIRC was 7PM PT. So they were fairly fresh market lines.

That dynamic was tangentially involved in the big blowup by later convicted felon Adam Meyer after the production team IIRC earlier had asked him to change a pick so that -- if I recall correctly -- both contestants wouldn't be on the same play. It's been a while, so perhaps if John is lurking around tonight he might talk about the old Stardust Invitational procedure in terms of the lines used and what Meyer's beef specifically was. I do recall Meyer blowing up a good bit about it -- with impulse control arguably also being involved in his later problems with the law.

So, am I reading that line hx material right that the line was -14.5 as of 6pm on Thursday, and then started moving up from there after 3pm on Friday? So the contest deadline was before the line move? (Edit: Or is the log in ET like the old VI logs rather than PT?)

Anyway, regardless, yeah, you always hear that CFB is easier to handicap than the NFL -- can't tell that from this group's results this Saturday.
