I have a Daschund, Rotti, Cat, two fish. As soon as we move we plan on getting the kids another hamster.

Re: Whats everyone have for family pets?

I have 3 fishtanks.
I sold one when I moved so I just have a 55 gallon now. I have just one bad ass Red Devil in there, he's eaten everything else I've put in. Jack Dempseys, Texas Ciclids and even a plecosthemus.

Fucker nipped me on the arm when I was moving rocks once and he drew blood.

Re: Whats everyone have for family pets?

Now see I would have to disagree. I have two Beta and they do follow me and watch me as I walk down the hallway. They do have personalities.
perhaps
but they would leave you in a nautical minute if you let them loose
I like to think to qualify as a pet there's an attachment that involves some loyalty

turtles, lizards, tarantulas and salamanders are just something to look at and hobby

Re: Whats everyone have for family pets?

If I had fish I'd tell my guests "those are my fish"
not "those are my pet fish"

I might explain their natural habitat and go into a little about the evolutionary patterns represented in them

but I wouldn't say "his name is rick and pull him/her (who give's a rat's ass either way with fish) from the tank and encourage my guest to play with rick"

maybe I'll learn something and be corrected
but there ain't much pussy factor in owning tarantula's
unless you're into tattoo smeared goth chicks

Ahh that is where we differ then, I feel like a pet is something that adds to your life. A pet to me is something that does not judge me but I can talk to and not worry about what they will say no matter what.

I know I am strange but that is ok I am good with that.:+textinb3

cats are hardly pets either... dogs are much better than cats.

I'm not lessoning the value in having and caring for this class of creatures
I'm just of the opinion to qualify as a "pet" there has to be a better degree of emotional attachment and interactivity
I'm stabbing in the dark
but was is the basis of the origin of the term pet?

Well this is what Webster says: A domesticated animal kept for companionship or amusement.

that white cat pictured with me has equal attachment and loyalty qualities as any dog
he sleeps next to me and/or half laid across me
watches the door
one girlfriend commented
"he guards you"

he hears me pull into the driveway and is there at the door
I can see him making noise of cheerfulness because I'm home

I'm not into the dog vs cat arguement
I have my two cats as sort of stray abandonment cases

I'll have a dog one day too

what I will add is on the high volume bodybuilding site I frequent
threads such as this appear form time to time
more fitness guys have cats

the feline family tree is far more graceful then dog
your 125LB rott or whatever would be torn apart by a leopard

you match any dog LB for LB against a cat
cat wins
bet on it

Re: Whats everyone have for family pets?

3 german sheppards, fish, tarantula spider
we had sheppards when I was a youngster growing up in the 70s
sheppards were popular in the 70s
and then this 80s era crap commenced when it became popular to have a viscious dog
rotts and pit bulls
we know why

I want a cool ass german sheppard again one day
I have to get a puppy so I can bond it with my cats

Hitler had a sheppard "Blondie" (eastwood's name in the good, bad, and ugly)
but the German army named their panzers after cats
tiger,panther,lynx,puma etc.
