When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

Will give you two SMALL examples, one with video poker, one with slots..................not going to ramble on about this because

.........1. Not going to ruin golden gooses that abound.......2. Don't have the time .........3. Don't appreciate listening to numerous naysayers, bashers, and doubters who have no clue about the actual world of video poker/slots.

Again, here are two SMALL examples.........

VIDEO POKER---These days(not as much in past), most +EV video poker evolves around casino promos of some sort.......usually in a given month, there are only a handf.ul or two of these to attack(if one does not want to go outside the state of Nevada)........one plays an a 100+% machine(easily figured out by the paytables) or one close to it when attacking these promos..........last week ThePalms had a holiday promo where they were giving extra cash for so many pts plus holiday gift cards..........couple this with a 3X pts coupon I had(this alone added .5% to the game) and one could play an array of different machines that provided close to a 101% payback, meaning one would make $1 for every $100 invested...........was able to find a machine where I was able to put over $5,000 an hour through, so on paper was making over $50 an hour for the days play(ended up running well and profited $3,900).........this play will also garninsh excellent MAILERS in the future.

On the SLOT front, another SMALL play...........many of you that frequent casinos have seen the numerous machines that have two progressives that must be hit by a certain amount, one by 50.00, the other by 500.00.........well, simply play the small progressive when it reaches 45.50 and the large one when it reaches 465.00(hopefully combined with a good slot card)........in the long, longrun, one will come out ahead(expect MASSIVE swings).

Been playng THOUSANDS of variations of slots and video poker plays like these for nearly 20 years......and as mentioned, not going to mention the better varieties that only a handful of others are aware of.........the face of this GRIND is always changing.

Overall, for me personally(not the case with some other professioal gamblers), sportsbetting has been much, much more lucrative than VP/SLOTS over the last few years.

nice write up fish.

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

Fish tells you excellent stuff, but he's giving false hope to the average poster here.

A 101% machine is great, but unless you play the game perfectly (and long enough), it might as well be a 110% machine. And even VP perfection has a nasty way of crushing you most of the time.

It's not simply walking in, discovering a +EV machine, sitting down, and thinking you are well on your road to riches. You have to have a huge BR to play VP (perfectly). Because what is going to happen is that you are going to be ground down and down and down until the Big Kahuna (finally) hits and you get your money back plus some (hopefully). If you don't have the Big Kahuna staying power (bankroll) to vamp on the machine until your ship comes in, then your 101% machine will most likely turn into a 75% payout experience.

You should get great mail though.

True.

The variance in a 100%+ VP would cripple 99.9% of the posters here

When I get stuck on a VP hand, I have an app on my phone which will give me the correct advantage play.

LOL. I don't think I have ever won one of those hands.

Jeff and Bigbet.............

What you both state is absolutely true.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if one is pounding a 101.1% game and nearly 3% of the payout evolves around a ROYAL FLUSH that occurs only once every 41,000 hands on average, one is going to experience a massive amount of ups and downs(swings)............................and as JJ eluded to, playing correct strategy is not a given to most in these situations either.

Different types of vp games offer different degrees of variance, for instance a 9/6 jacks or better game has a lower variance compared to many and most other games(but the payout with PERFECT strategy is only 99.5% roughly)........but with incentive promos one can make games like this and those with lower payout percentages and low variance still +EV longterm.

A seasoned professional is USUALLY more concerned with the total return on a particular game more so than the variance factor, because as JJ/bigbet stated.........they have the bankrolls, know perfect strategy or very very very close to it, and are aware before they sit down of the variance factor that is ahead of them on whatever game they are playing and thus deep down are not overly concerned with the swings.

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

I think the VP bottom line for the average EOG poster is "don't try this at home."

The bankroll is not there, the knowledge is not there, and the kickback mail is not understood.

It's a grind.

Betting the Gila Monsters over the Salamanders is a lot more fun.

Whenever I go in casino, I always make a target to win and double the money and after doubling the money, I leave the casino because I never play for third chance which is always unlucky for me.

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

If you are planning to venture beyond the lucrative field of sports gambling into the casino, you probably should bookmark Mike Shackleford's wizardofodds.com and wizardofvegas.com.

You don't need to go out and buy a lot of goofy books (ok, maybe one to read on the plane ride out here). Shackleford covers everything, from the elementary to the arcane. You can (and should) spend a lotta time on his sites.

He can't give you an advantage on -EV casino games, but he will present the theoretical best way to attempt them.

In the end, you want to play the game correctly, and hope that the distribution of spins, deals, and rolls rewards you.

From my experience, despite all the Sharp blustery, and armed with every vig and all the odds, I've learned that winning (or losing, euphemistically known as "running badly") kinda boils down to whether you happened to walk up to the table at the right (or wrong) time.

Play slots, craps, and roulette. I last a long time and lose a little. Just doing it for fun with the hope that I'll get lucky.

I was doing a bit of research on roulette - seems like the easiest way to make money If you crack the wheel.

Albert Einstein once said the only way to beat the roulette wheel was to not play it.

Well this kook from Britain figured out a way to predict were the ball would land - using numerous different calculations as the ball spins. Some of it is the quality of the wheel - some of it is the person spinning the ball - some of it is timing - and some of it is through the help of technology.

He has this hand held machine that somehow ( maybe lazer pointer ) detects the speed of the ball and predics were it lands. This kook has videos of himself spinning the wheel and picking out the correct number 3-5 times in a ROW. do you know the odds of that!? The times when he's wrong it often hits right next to the predicted number.

Can't post the link cause it'll be marked as spam- since he's selling his knowledge for about $400.

Keep an out of state address and the mail is even better.

To answer the question, yes I routinely destroy -EV casino games, lost count how many times those guys in suits chased me out of the keno parlor.

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

I have been interrogated in Las Vegas casinos by Las Vegas Metro Police.

I'm hoping to raise the bar to keno supervisors. LOL. Good grief.

I stay out of this games, everytime I go in I get out with less money, Im sure if you wanna win you have to play tons of hands to come out positive, I rather bet on a lakers or miami game and suffer more the last minutes of the buzzer :p

How about the bingo online games? does it even worth it to play there?

Life is waaaayy too short to be sitting at a video poker machine and inhaling 2nd hand smoke and missing daylight. I would not take that job. A waste of a life

Re: When you go into a casino, do you win a lot or go broke?

Why would anybody play online casino games? How degenerate can it become?

An Internet website can deliver any outcome they desire to your session. Guess what, you will lose.

First of all, you are playing illegally.

Secondly, you probably don't know what you are doing in the first place.

So you take on Internet table games. Do you have some uncontrolable need to gamble?

How do you gamble against people who can disappear into the jungle tomorrow? What are you going to do? Buy a plane ticket to travel 2000 miles to Costa Rica to confront Julio Down By The Schoolyard?

Don't knock it. That is the business model of Internet Gambling.
