Re: horse racing Friday Thread

The Tabulator looks a bit interesting in the Iowa Derby. I think he gets the lead. In the Woody Stephens he was up close to a crazy pace: 21 2/5 and 43 3/5 and a deep closer ended up putting away all the speed. He has won over the track. I'm guessing High North will be favored.

any thoughts on the iowa derby?

leaning ft peck

I'm using the 5 and the 7 only.......i'm banking on one of those 2 lightly raced 3YO's are better than what we've seen from the others so far.

Big Scratch of Dr. Dorr in 8th. Screwed up what I had planned to do. Will probably use 2 and 6 in the 8th, but not much of an opinion there.

This is hardly the way I planned on spending my vacation, lol.

Eurton could have stayed home and run next week in the Los Al Derby....good sign he shipped for a bigger purse on a comebacker. (#7 Cool Bobby 10/1 ML)

At first I thought he was taking advantage of the Ship and Win program for the upcoming DM meet, in which case the intent to win may not have been as great, but the horse ran in the Fall Meet at DM and wouldn't be eligible.

Re: horse racing Friday Thread

Dr. Dorr running at Belmont tomorrow.

Speaking of which, Hoppertunity runs tomorrow for Baffert. Here's his itinerary the past 2 months.

Ship from LA to Louisville for a race, then ship back to LA. Ship from LA to New York for a race, then ship back to LA. Ship back to NY for the Suburban.

That's a lot of travel miles for the old veteran. I won't be surprised if he doesn't fire. Over 10,000 shipping miles in that time period.

Belmont and Arlington have great cards for Saturday.

NYRA has a great free App on AppleTV with excellent Daily racing coverage in HD for NYRA tracks.

Also, this is new, Churchill Twin Spires, has added a free App on AppleTV with daily HD coverage of Arlington, Churchill and Fairgrounds.

I will I’ll be looking out for JK & Co. in the Arlington paddock on their annual August meet up.

Good Luck tomorrow.

The time off will send many bettors in another direction
The time off is likely due to shin bucking..no big deal

He's now 3..he's grown up and likely even faster than he was as a 2yo
Not that ambitious of a spot for him its within his capabilities

If he's 4 or 5 completely different take on the time off

Funny the rest I won't argue with other than horses off 90+ days terrible investments especially on dirt. I need 15/1 minimum

Not at all. It only bothers me if it's a drop. Like Blueline, I love betting extended layoffs on horses 2-3, and 3-4. Especially this time of year.

Why don't you bet stakes? You never get more in form longshots than in stakes. I do like the layoff/3 YO debut angle as the horse has time to develop and add mass.

Maidens and NW1X sure. But I quit betting NW2 claiming about 15 years ago. Haven't regretted it.

I love betting big money on big-money races.

Bigger pools and more false favorites or overhyped horses.

Additionally, you don't have to guess about trainer intent.

Love the 6 in the last race at Los Al however they slobbered all over themselves on the radio this morning giving it out now unbettable.

Video killed the radio star & radio killed the value star.

My methodology/ approach doesn't work as well for me in stakes.
Rarely will have a win bet in a stake but I do have to come up with opinions in muti-race wagers.

I hate the turf except for ClmNW2L and some other specific circumstances
Sloppy tracks get my attention..love off tracks

When I sit down to play first thing I search out are the maiden races.

Trainer intent is over blown especially nowadays

Maybe at a Macro-Level, but there are certainly gems to be found w/in a local circuit.
And with relation to that and layoff horses, 180+ day horses that are eligible to be waiver protected and are not, are almost an immediate toss for me. Often times because of pre-lay off good form these types take money........and of course I like the opposite, 180+ horses that do come back waiver protected. One of the last good variables CG's are not incorporating.

where is waiver protected listed in the racing form?
actually how are you using the term Waiver protected?
